Dipstick

I was talking to someone about fuel tanks etc and I said that when I was a kid I thought I remembered that we had a dipstick for the large GUCCC motors. The fellow I was talking with said that they had never seen one so did I dream this or what?

I have a wooden one (Home made) based on what we had on the Norfolk broads Hire boats in the 50/60s.

Dipping the tank with a selected stick, or with a piece of brass with marks engraved. The DIY or the expensive method. I expect that a stick was a common thing and well used but that a brass rod with graduations was probably not

I use a broom handle, marked off in 20ltrs with a permanent felt marker pen, does me.

The GUCCCo motors had metal graduated dipsticks. I have an original from "Tucana" and the same was present on my former wooden working boat "Neptune". And I always ask this, does anyone know where "Neptune" is or its fate??

Mr Hogg, is there any chance of a picture? Are the fuel tanks the same size on a small and large motor? I would like to get a copy made if so.

Have used the one on Shad at the NWM Ellesmere Port and that is a length of brass 4 inch ish plates with a chain link between each plate, whether that is an original item I have no idea.
