If you have one willing to hire out or know of places that maybe able help your help would be greatly appreciated, I am in the Birmingham area but can travel about. Thanks in advance
Guest Posted July 25, 2014 Report Posted July 25, 2014 Some members on here do own hire companies and boats, one will be along shortly, I,m sure......
John Williamson 1955 Posted July 25, 2014 Report Posted July 25, 2014 (edited) Try the hire companies near you to see if they've got a last minute cancellation? There are quite a few firms on this page:- http://www.canaljunction.com/narrowboat/hiremid.htm#sw Edited July 25, 2014 by John Williamson 1955

Thanks in advance Hi PaulyP, Welcome to the forum. As John Williamson has already suggested, see if an hire company has a last minute cancellation. However, I suggest that in addition to a summer cruise (which can be glorious) you hire at least once in the winter for a couple of weeks. (Which can also be glorious - but you'll also enjoy some quite different experiences)

The canals are less crowded, no queues for locks, without leaves on the trees the birds are easier to spot, the smell of a stew or curry bubbling on the stove for when you come in from cruising... oops sorry I was getting carried away for a moment then.

Darren72 Posted July 25, 2014 Report Posted July 25, 2014 Black Prince should do you a cheap price for a last minute booking.
john6767 Posted July 25, 2014 Report Posted July 25, 2014 There are plenty of hire companies not far from Birmingham, and despite the number of boats they seem to have been sending out today, looking on a few web sites I suspect there are one or 2 still available for tomorrow or Monday. Some you could try http://www.kateboats.co.uk/ http://www.calcuttboats.com/ http://www.rose-narrowboats.co.uk/
PaulyP Posted July 25, 2014 Author Report Posted July 25, 2014 Thanks! most the numbers arent answering, thats me being too keen and its a bit late, think Id better stop calling them at this time - I'll ring them all in the morning Cheers
David Mack Posted July 25, 2014 Report Posted July 25, 2014 There's last minute bookings with an online availability checker at http://www.latelink.com/ .
Nightwatch Posted July 25, 2014 Report Posted July 25, 2014 Just been on that site ,to have a look. Some are a bit tight on their last minute deals. Perhaps if you phone them and negotiate hard, you can get them down a little more.
