I can confirm the poster has run a request by me to post the advert.

Thanks

Thank you.

I queried because there are forum rules about advertising and I wanted to check that they had been followed.

I thought you had to have Boatmaster to carry people for money. Maybe they are willing to train someone.

It sounds like they are willing to train someone who is not currently a boatmaster if necessary.

The rules allow the steerer not to actually hold a licence provided their is a boatmaster present on the vessel. You will often find the owner/operator has a licence but is inside looking after the "hotel" side while an unqualified steerer in "training" is at the helm.

Hi everyone,

My name is Kat - I am the poster of this job advert. Sorry, I personally do not have much experience in skippering - I have worked as a crew member on the Marianne's sister boat in Cardiff for 4 years and have just taken over recruitment for the company. Apologies for the inconsistencies you have all noticed in the ad, I am a novice at this. Hope this helps and clears up some of your questions:

We would prefer someone who already has the basic ancillary courses already, but then train them in how to handle the vessel and what to do if an emergency was to happen, equally we are happy to train people with experience in handling vessels if necessary. The job is fairly easy, the ship canal is fairly quiet and the boat is fairly simple to handle.

The hours depend on the week, we operate most weekends for 15 hours each weekend including Saturday evening. The job would be split between 2 Skippers ideally so you could swap weekends where required. Then we also run cruises through school holidays for around 5 hours per day which would again be split between Skippers. It's a nice bit of extra money for someone that enjoys boating and is looking for some experience in a different vessel.

We run sightseeing cruises around the Manchester ship canal and also provide a venue for parties on Saturday evenings. The boat is a passenger vessel length is 15m with a doosan L136 120hp engine.

Anyone interested please send us your CV, we are considering all entrants individually.

Thank you
