BCN Challenge 2014 - 24 & 25th May

We got the opportunity to ask Richard Parry if he had enjoyed his pleasant little outing on the venerable boat Tawny Owl yesterday. He confirmed he had thoroughly enjoyed himself but it appears he had not appreciated what a starring role the vessel takes on at various banters around the country and how many canal loving folks it has played host to over the years since it ceased to be a hire boat. Richard you have been hiding the Tawny Owl lamp under that bushel again :)

Well our BCN Challenge trip is now over. We got back to Debdale today after what must have been our slowest trip down Foxton. 1hr 10mins to do the flight - if you don't want to scratch your new blacking don't take your boat down a flight of locks!

Overall had a great time despite the weather. Total trip including the challenge was 234 miles 242 locks over 14 days and arrived back in glorious sunshine.

Looking forward to next year already.

We're still on our way home biggrin.png

Mooring just outside Stone tonight so we're nearly there.

Some nice pubs in Stone, Ange.

They sell proper beer, don't know about Broon Ale though.

ETA And tuesday night is Quiz night at The Swan.

A few hours then

Richard

Hour for Dudley 2, 45 minutes for Netherton tunnel, something for new main line

It is 12 miles, sir. Albeit you can perhaps *ahem* crank it up a bit on the mainline, one prop foul and you're out of the race. :)

I would say it is 2 hours to the Main Line and then another 2 hours to Brum. The Mail Line is 4 mph all the way, but Dudley No. 2 is slow going even without a precession of boats. If you don't want to push at Challenge speed, then allow 4 and a half hours.

On Friday I did Birmingham to Windmill End in 3 hours without pushing it.

Exactly 24 hours of course, plus any additional time that you spend resting.biggrin.png
