patty-ann Posted October 24, 2013 Report Posted October 24, 2013 Rice doesn't work if its wine instead of water that drenches.
Taslim Posted October 24, 2013 Report Posted October 24, 2013 Left digital camera on roof yesterday .... Found it this morning. Gutted! Am drying it out above stove but not expecting any real success You left something, that wasn't bolted down, overnight on the roof and it was still there in the morning? Gawd! You must have parked your ark in a posh place.
ROBDEN Posted October 24, 2013 Report Posted October 24, 2013 I know it won't make you feel any better but... Bending over to tie off to a newly inserted pin on Sunday evening at Dapdune - SPLOSH - Midland G7 Walkie Talkie slides gracefully out of oilie pocket directly into the Wey. Anybody want one walkie talkie?? Annoying thing, hardly ever use them. Only because it was tipping down and we didn't want to faff about, I dispatched 'Er Indoors up the towpath to find a place for the night as I followed on. Could have been worse - she suggested using the mobile phones! Glad it wasn't a new'ish iPhone 5 making the splash... On the original topic I have brought a number of mobiles back from the dead just by long, slow gentle drying. The airing cupboard being my favourite place. Good luck!! Yeah! Friend of mine......his a single hander.
mango Posted October 25, 2013 Report Posted October 25, 2013 I lost some impossible to replace photos when my digital camera fell in a lock, I replaced it with an Olympus Tough camera, shockproof, crushproof, freezeproof & waterproof to 10 metres (it's the one in the advert where the kid throws it for the dog, bangs nails in with it then washes the mud of & his Mum takes a piccy) And I've attached a Waterbuoy so if I drop it in again I'll stand a decent chance of getting it back! That sounds very impressive, but what if it catches fire?
pelicanafloat Posted November 3, 2013 Author Report Posted November 3, 2013 Hmm, seems that leaving a camera out on the roof is deemed to be "equipment"? Well, I guess it some sort of equipment failure .... a pity about the camera. After oodles of attention and belated care it will not function. I went onto ebay and found some replacement cameras at silly prices, the cheapest being £75 smackers. In the end, I bought a cheap second hand Nikon coolpix P5100 which is actually quite good but so TINY! Am keeping it for spare. Have just agreed to buy a replacment: http://www.trustedreviews.com/Canon-PowerShot-SX1-IS_Digital-Camera_review I got told off by wifey .. she said my camera browsing was as close to porn as porn gets (whatever that means)! Anyway, I'm saving up for my next camera .... hmmm, how long before I leave this one in the rain? It's being sent to Yelvertoft Marina so hopefully it will be there when we return to our winter moooring
deckhand Posted November 3, 2013 Report Posted November 3, 2013 Hubby slipped into Stenson Lock with iphone 5s in pocket. iPhone's do not like to swim in locks. Hubby's do not like to be in locks either. Replacement iphone now on way to hubby thanks to insurance (phew) Glad when the damn thing is here because he is like a kid who has lost all his toys. )
Robbo Posted November 3, 2013 Report Posted November 3, 2013 Cat litter is supposed to be effective at drying. Silica cat litter is what I would recommend. In addition leave it in there for a long time. I had issues with my laptop after it got wet, a week later and it was still having issues so took the decision that it needed replacing. A month drying in a bath of silica and it now works perfectly. If you have a air blower though I would try to blow dry it first and then place in rice/silica.

It would seem the wife is being blown about by the wind and she taking it out on me! Having realised that each of us has just the one walkie talkie, she is demanding I either ask if we can have your spare, or if you prefer, let me have your address, and I'll let you have ours .... Seems fair to me. I hasten to add we not bothered either way. Perhaps we could set up a boarding home for single walky talky in need of adoption
