What have you fettled for the boat today?

Featured Posts

New box of props ready to take to the boat today. These ones are Vovlo Penta J5's.

There is nothing wrong with J4's that are on the boat at the minute. They are according to Volvo Penta a straight swap for the A4's we had on previously but we have found that not to be true. The boat is much quicker onto the plane but we have lost a few knots top end.

The swap to J5's should see us regain those lost knots but may make her slower onto the plane. We will find out I suppose when we swap them. Bit cold for putting hands in the water right now to change them though so they can go in the anchor locker for now!

I bought a very cheap water meter and fitted it - mainly to see if it was any good.  It seems to work well so that when I reach 200l I know it's time to fill up. For just under 14 quid, I reckon it's worth the money.  Google Bradas digital water meter.

Is that measuring the amount you take out of the tank?

Yes.  So you have to know the capacity of the tank.  I just filled mine up then drained it to almost empty (using the old fashioned dip stick method).

  • 3 weeks later...

Needed to fabricate a reducer for the raw water feed into a gearbox oil cooler.  The old one was cast iron and had been repaired a number of times, so thought I'd make a new one.  Made from stock parts, except for the square flange, which was flame cut.  Tacked up and then stick welded with three beads.  Job finished by welding on a boss to take a drain tap, hopefully stop it happening again.

Finally got round to making / fitting new bow fender, go cart tyer  fits snugly over the front as I have found it is always the front edge that wears the most , not a professional job by any means but it suits me and now it matches the stern fender

I decided to stencil the cloths.  When I'd finished it was pointed out that I'd got the "A"s and the "W"s back to front.  Fortunately the mistake wasn't disasterous because vinyl ink comes off very easily with acetone.  I think everything is OK now.

Mind you, I used the same set of stencils on Owl and the "N" was upside down.  Yes - someone noticed it and pointed out my mistake!

Well yes, if you put an ‘N’ in OWL I guess someone would notice. That’s not how you spell it.

Glad to see you have some nice weak links in there so you dont hang up or lift a gate.

Well, yes.

It was the sixth coat, I think.

I need to get it finished by Wednesday as we're going up to t'boat in the car.

If I don't the alternative is me taking it up by public transport.

Has anyone tried taking a boathook across London on the tube?

I've taken a 4M curtain rail on the top deck of a London Transport bus.

Well after the disaster with trying to use scrap Sapele veneered ply i decide to use the rest of my scraps of Iroko i have left. I need more now was i have a little left over and want to make  drop down berth/table.

Anyway,  i cut 50mm squares into about 5mm thick tiles and used Cascamite to glue them to 9mm ply base.

I reckon another coat maybe, this is the third, still soaking into he grain here. Oh yes Le Tonk is used. Great stuff but a pain with dust settling.

Guess i will have learn to play chess and mark the table out lol.

This is for a cupboard top.
