TV Video Equipment

The portable DVD player we bought from NZ has developed an intermittent fault which prevents it initially loading reliably. The problem is not with the geographical zoning of discs, it is an all zone player, and treats all zones equally as to whether it loads or not. It is simply like us, a bit broke.

The 7” display is certainly intimate if two of us want to watch.

Val likes her DVD’s, which are a mix of Zone1 Zone 2 and Zone 4 discs but all can purchased in NZ and then be played, on NZ sourced equipment because our Competition Watchdog has decreed that zoning, was purely an anti competitive action, therefore illegal.

Anyway we are considering our options.

We like to minimise the use of our 3kva inverter because the iron losses cause a substantial loss regardless of load.

So do we pay a premium for a 12v TV video combo about 20” or buy a considerably cheaper 230V machine and a then 300va inverter? Lidl?

Or buy a 230v TV only and buy a multizone DVD player in NZ, or can we hack/unlock the single zoning in a UK sourced model?

Buy a small 230v TV having checked very carefully that the supplied power brick says "12v" on it. Wire cutters, suitable plug, screwdriver, solved. You may want to use a regulator on it. I'm sure you can get multizone DVDs over here if necessary.

I think what Charlotte is trying to say is that many of the TVs you see for sale are, in fact, 12 volt. have a look at the plug and you may find that it is actually one of those transformer type things. If the output is 12 volt DC then it should be easy to cut the wire and put in a 12 volt plug. The only snag may be that the voltage in the boat can rise as high as 15 volts when on charge. I don't expect that to be a problem, but there is a chance.
