mark99
Hi, I got to get some grease for various bits and pieces. What brand grease is good for general duties including for the water pump gland greaser on the 2LW.
Split Pin
Hi Mark The grease point on the water pump is not for the gland it is for the bearing that the impelleor shaft runs on. This should be lubricated with a a small quantity of LM grade grease occasionaly, make sure that any excess grease has not blocked the drain slot on the bottom of the pump . mark99
ok Steve thanks - the manual calls it the "water pump gland greaser" perhaps a mis-nomer but I take your point with thanks.

Steve Did I read in the Gardner manual once that the water pump greaser should be turned very seldom, as the grease is actually detrimental to the gland. Timleech
Did I read in the Gardner manual once that the water pump greaser should be turned very seldom, as the grease is actually detrimental to the gland. Seemed a very strange state of affairs As Steve said, the grease is for the (ball) bearing rather than the gland. The early pumps had a spherical graphite seal, not really a gland, and any grease on that would certainly render it less effective. The newer pumps have better seals, but even so best to keep grease off them. Tim

Timleech
How? By following the directions and only very occasionally giving the greaser a turn? Tim
