We've managed to move the boat around the waterways for 5 years so now we're thinking of doing an RYA helmsman course so we can find out how we SHOULD be handling the boat. Has anyone got any experience they would like to share with us, bearing in mind we are in the Cheshire area - Shroppie, T&M, Bridgewater, Macc canal even peak forest would be ok..

Having hired on numerous occasions and had pretty good 'hirers schooling', when we bought our own boat, we did the course and found it invaluable! Not just the mechanics of doing things right, but understanding the reasons why somethings are done in a certain way. Go for it, you will not regret it, and you may avoid expensive errors!!hug.gif

Agree with the above comments. There are often several safe ways of doing the same thing and we found it was a good opportunity to discuss and try different techniques. Look http://www.rya.org.uk/coursestraining/courses/inland/Pages/InlandWaterways.aspx

on the RYA website for details of a course near you.
