Stunning Canal Barge Ware Gypsy Art Hand Painted Bucket

Some smart Alec has asked the seller about a 'buy it now' price due to the high interest from other boaters. He's even signed off as Roger Thecabinboy!

I can't wait to see the answer to my question. Oops, I've gone and blown my cover!

Don't know whether this will clinch it for the seller, but on the last photo, isn't that a couple of fake rivets near the handle?

I have just bid £9.50 on the basis that this item will make Robin Evans a fantastic leaving present.

However , I am not sure he is worth more than £20 including postage so if it keeps going up then I will have to drop out.

Link not working for me....

Try Again Link

That's rather "special", isn't it, although the fact that the flowers are vaguely "rose-like" means it really isn't quite of the same "standard" as the bucket.

It appears to me that pitcher is possibly made of copper in The Arts & Crafts style.

Somebody could have defaced a valuable piece in the style of Charles Francis Annesley Voysey with their painted flowers! I might have suggested to the seller this could be such but as they already know my eBay ID I will keep quiet .....

When I look at the bidder's ids the last one is listed as 'f***u'

Does it look as though the truth has been revealed

I think that maybe my 'Roger Thecabinboy' question might have unfortunately blown our cover. It's not even been listed amongst the Q&A's

Just like to thank you all for boosting the sale of my bucket. You have managed to get me over 20 quid for a 4 quid item for which I am very grateful. Now as you laugh your little socks off I'm going to nip to the off licence to celebrate my lucky find. It indeed came from my late Uncles working barge that for years went between Blackburn and Wigan moving coal. The holes were for water to run out to wash his hands under, and the other piece did indeed come from the same source...his wifes shed.she is in here 90s and still living. So please feel free to chuckle whilst getting me a good price for my items and enjoy your life in this canal world bubble. Hope you have changed your pants as some of you seem to have creamed them with all this chuckling...now go back to your little bubble world and leave normal ungeeky people to get on with theirs ...cheers Harley Bella Fontayn the 3rd :captain:

Hello. I should really have a look at this on a proper 'puter. That vase looks like it has an 's' painted on the bottom. Could it be an early Phil Speight piece? Might be worth a bob or two.

I suppose it could be a genuine bucket, but why didn't you mention the hand washing in your description? First time I heard of that mind, but who knows. And why would you describe a four quid piece of tat as 'stunning'?

 Considering the free publicity the forum has given to this piece and in the process generated a good profit for the seller I feel there is a rather nasty tone to that message. I wonder what makes Ella more "normal" than the rest of us?

It is nice to hear the story behind the item but what pity there is not any real information given like the name of the barge. It could have added even more value to the item.

Yes we have had a good laugh but rather than it being at anyone's expense it seems to have produced a good profit so why the sour grapes? If I were one of the bidders I think I would consider a retraction given the attitude of the seller.

Hi Jan,

Do you not detect an air of suspicion about this post? :P

That's a good result. It's nice that you took people's jests in good part and that what started out as a bit of a mickey-take ended up getting you a good price. There's no such thing as bad publicity! It would be interesting to know more about the barge that the bucket came off. Have you any old photos perhaps?

The holes were for water to run out to wash his hands under.................

it's purely decorative,I think most of the paint would come off if it was used to hold water too

The paint did remarkably well in the circumstances then, now its true use is fully explained - "a purely decorative hand washing bucket", it seems.

And surely worth far more, therefore, than the mere £21 it currently stands at!.......

Mike

An air of suspicion! more like a hurricane.

His Uncle used it to wash his hands, why didn't he just use the tap he filled it with? His Uncles wife's shed! where was the sellers Aunty.

The post is absolutely mad, obviously a long standing member, now lets have a guess ........ mmmmmm
