Equus is a rather wonderful thing, that I have noted change hands at least once moor in the past

I believe the 1850 date of build is perfectly plausible, though I am uncertain if a boat genuinely that old can be called a "Bantock".

I like this in the text for one of the short boats...

Quote

it has been fitted out internally but now requires work to bring it up to an inhabitable standard

I might be getting Equus confused with another boat, but if it is the boat I'm thinking of it was for sale at Virginia Currer @ Iver about 2014 ish and I subsequently saw it stuck in Cholmondeston Lock (Venetian Marina) some time after it sold. If I have got the right boat, I think it's on the wide side.

I quite like that Dennis Cooper boat they have.

I quite like the "lovely Russell Newbury 3 cylinder engine" in it..

Correct. Same boat. Seemed to be on sale there for ages.

I'm not sure about exact dates, but I think Equus was indeed sold via Virginia Currer in something like that timeframe.

That's two of you now that have suggested she may be "wide", and indeed these BCN boats often are, particularly if cut and a new back end added, without pulling them in as part of the operation.

Caveat emptor, I think,

I had a really good look over the EQUUS around then. I think it was on for £25k. I thought it a lovely and charming boat but the interior fit-out was just too much for my taste, being dark red and polished ally that had long seen it's best. Frankly it all looked too 'porn star' to feel comfortable going, errr, cruising in.

So  bought REGINALD instead on a tip off from a (long gone) member here that it might be coming on the market. Then promptly got firmly jammed in Awbridge lock on the way for a lift-out and survey to measure the width....

it seems interesting that Mersey (ex Arthur), Wye and Equus have high price tags.

One wonders if this may be an estate sale with importance being placed on the assets achieving a realistic market value rather than being given away.

That's a cracking boat. I do like the interior. Makes Hydrus/Raven look a bit silly at the last price I saw, was it £107,000?

I saw it and was tempted back onto the canals. Lovely interior the lounge is almost reminiscent of a gentleman's club.

RENOWN, I remember sitting in her one Christmas with several others, and the draws all opened as we all sat on one side cuasing the boat to tilt . . .

And a wonderful chilli-concarne Sue cooked up in the back cabin after a one handed stint taking Yarmouth up Buckby. (Some things do not forgotten! 😉
