David Hutchings: A talk by his son about his father

The next meeting of the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal Society is this Friday (18th) and promises to be very special

 

We will have a presentation by Job Hutchings, son of David Hutchings, and it will be of great interest to all our members and others, and in particular to those who were involved in the post-war restoration movement, which culminated in the opening of the Southern Stratford.

 

The Society have had sight of some of the material and much of it has not been seen in public before. Job has a wealth of anecdote and background about growing up with one of the most famous restoration leaders of recent times, so we will have a first hand account of a major waterways figure.

 

 

Meetings are held at Wootton Wawen Village Hall @1930 (Postcode B95 6AY) which is situated in the village of Wootton Wawen very near to the A3400 Stratford-upon-Avon to Henley in Arden road

 

Directions:

 

From the south, leave Stratford on the A3400, pass under the canal aqueduct at Wootton Wawen/Navigation Pub, past the village store on the left and then the road takes a 90-degree turn towards Henley in Arden. At the apex of the bend, turn left onto the B4089 towards Aston Cantlow/Alcester. On the corner you will see the Bulls Head pub and the entrance to the village hall is 100 yards from the junction, opposite the pub carpark

 

From the north, leave Henley in Arden on the A3400. As you approach Wootton Wawen, the road goes down a slight hill and then takes a 90-degree turn to the left. On the apex of the bend, turn right and follow the instructions as above
