The evidence from delivery and health registration dates is that Sickle and Sarpedon were delivered as a pair - many intended pairings of GUUCo boats never happened and the boats ended up with a different motor or butty.

 

I have no evidence that they worked as a pair, but if they worked at all, then they probably did, at least for a while.  Sickle was converted to an ice breaker in 1942, so at about 6 years old, so any carrying work she did do for the GUCCCo has to be before that date, but I have heard of no records that give any clues about how much use she saw from 1936 to 1942.

If your friend has any hard evidence of either boat in carrying service, then I would love to see it.
