Laurence Hogg
Visited Alvecote today, good show of working boats to be seen and a few CWDF members too.
Picard
Moored at Alvecote a few weeks ago and found Del Boys 3 wheel van, (only fools and horses), you can just see the front end behind Tawny Owls photo, has even got a blow up doll in the back. Don't think for one moment that it is the original, but interesting all the same.

Athy
So how many CWF-ers are featured? I recognised Alan Fincher on Sickle, with his dancing team on the patio, and of course Starry looking in the pink as half of Team Reg. Any others? EDIT: oh, and a cameo appearance by Mrs. Athy, who was trying to disentangle two dogs which were moored in the hold of Darley and which had managed to tie themselves or their leads in knots. The photo perhaps does not show Mrs. A's best side, however. Edited September 4, 2012 by Athy
alan_fincher
Athy...... On Tawny Owl you have.... Sue (Mrs Tawny Owl), Jill (Wrigglefingers), Hairy Neil and Richard (RLWP). The lady on Lamprey is its new owner SarahAVFC Also on Reginald as well as Starcoaster is its owner, Mike the Boilerman, of course. At the tiller of Victoria is Mike Askin On the Gunwale of Canis Major, in at least one photo is "Tiggers", its owner. There are also two of the Narrowcraft / Alvecote crowd on the Joshers, who post here very occasionally. On Kangaroo is giveitsomeoil, whereas on Greyhound is kingofthecut. As well as "Catrin" on Sickle's "patio" is my elder son, David, who took many of our photos. David may have long hair, but I'm not sure he would be too keen on a description of "dancing girl"...... There were quite a few other forum members there - I thought the quest here was to identify ones in the photos ?

alan_fincher
And of course thanks for the info, Alan.
No problem. I have at least been trying to add some of our pictures to our blog, even if I have yet to write much text about the event itself. (Did we mention how good their chef is ?? Or how very good "Fallen Angel" is ?!?). I'm now seeing if I can actually start to write up the very hurried journey home, that ensued with Chalice. EDITED TO ADD: If you look at our blog pictures, they also add (at least) Dave ("Postcode") in charge of Python, and "Speedwheel" in charge of Tycho, as well as Sandra ("Evil Edna") on her superb icebreaker Baltic. Not sure "Chertsey" or "Paddington Bear" on Chertsey or "Tuscan" on Aber appear, but they will be in someone's photos. As I said, forum members have infiltrated the working boat world - or maybe the working boat world has infiltrated forum members. Hopefully our members who complain about "working boaters playgrounds" will not bee too offended - we were all very well behaved, honest, or at least those of us not involving ourselves in water and fire extinguisher skirmishes! Athy
(Did we mention how good their chef is ??
I do hope you don't mean the young man who was selling hamburgers (possibly for the Chesterfield Canal Trust) just outside the pub. He was extremely willing and polite but obviously inexperienced, fighting an uphill battle. First his gas cylinder was recalcitrant and took donkey's ages to coax into life; then his pump action tomato sauce dispenser had not been properly primed and, when tested, deposited a spray of thin but penetrating saucey juice all over the shirt of the first person to try it (and guess who that was); thirdly, there was an apparent onion famine in the area, so no lovely fried sliced onions were available. Finally, the dreary and overpriced quasi-hamburger which he eventually produced made me look forward avidly to my next meal, safe in the knowledge that it was bound to be far better. Was there food available elsewhere? We did not see any other stalls selling it.
Not a stall - the Samuel Barlow pub, where Paul the chef provided imaginative and tasty vegetarian food, which was accompanied by excellent beer (or so I am told - not a beer drinker myself). Athy
Ah, we did not go in the pub (except tpo sneak into the facilities)so we didn't realise. As vegetarians, you would probably have been safe eating the "hamburgers", I detected little or no meat content. Oddly enough, though I am a devout carnivore, at the recent Cropredy Festival I had a "Spicy Veggie Mexiburger" for dinner every evening. They were really quite delicious.
