Paloma gas water heater (model PH-5LFE)

Hello all

The pilot light on my Paloma PH-5LFE won’t come on (unless I turn on the water with the big button fully pressed-but it all goes dead once I release).

It has been getting weaker for months and has now given up the ghost permanently.

There must be a block.

Any ideas how I could fix this?

I’m afraid to blow/use a brush in case I push a blockage further down.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

hi the pilot jet is blocked, the paloma has two pilot jets, the big one for initial lighting, and the small one at the left which stays on. there's a little pricker pin at the left side of the pilot, just push it in and it'll clean the jet for you.

if this picture works you can see the pricker here, it's the one at the front, the back one is the screw to hold the front cover on.

Hi there, Your Paloma PH5-LFE does not have a Pilot cleaning pin, you'll have to remove the jet and clean it manually. A note of caution the hole in the jet is very fine !!

Ridders, your pic appears to be of the PH-5-3F. The OP has a PH-5LFE

I don't know enough about Palomas to comment constructively on the fault, other than to say it is not the behaviour of a failing thermocouple. I'm inclined to agree it is lack of pilot jet gas though, and cleaning the pilot jet would be my first step in diagnosing it.

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks all of you for the help!

I will arm myself with some amp wire and a hammer so!

Any nasty surprises in removing the pilot jet for cleaning?

I am offline on the boat so need as much guidance prior as possible.

Heading down this weekend!
