BMC 1.5 throttle and stop cable brackets

Hello all,

Some friends and I are fitting a reconditioned BMC 1.5, replacing a Perkins D3.152, into another boat. It's come with the levers on the fuel injection pump for the throttle and stop cable, but understandably no brackets to attach the control cables to.

Is there any chance of some pictures to show what people have got on theirs? We've got some ideas of a possible nut to detach and attach a custom-made bracket onto for the throttle cable, but nothing so far for the stop cable- there's nothing near it.

Stupidly I forgot to take any pictures of the setup on the engine today, but can probably get some for the delight and delectation of the forum members in about a weeks time when we're next down there.

If the injector pump has 4 studs sticking out of the end then a twin bracket can be fabricated and attached to the stud (or even two brackets each attached to two of the studs. Morse cable clamps (both inner and outer) are available from all good chandlers. I would use ball joint(s) on the end of the inner. If the stop is a Bowden cable then you will probably also have to fabricate an outer clamp but should be able to find a suitable nipple for the inner. Mega expensive strip steel available from B&Q.

If the pump only has four hexagon screws in the end then see if your local diesel injection specialist can supply the double ended stud things but please remove the screw and fit the studs ONE at a TIME.

You may need a return spring if the stop is a Bowden cable.

Hi All,

I am trying to replace the stop cable on my BMC 1.5 Captain but am struggling to see how it connects to the arm on the fuel injector pump fuel cut off lever, I am also struggling to find any instructions on how to fit the new cable! Any help welcome.

Cheers Tony

Usually with a screw type olive/trunnion as found on old car choke cables plus a clamp around the outer but to be sure about what you have we need a photo.

Fit cable through the trunnion that is already through the hole in the stop arm but do not tighten. Make sure cable is pushed right in. clamp outer to bracket. Hold lever in run position and tighten the trunnion screw.

Any idea where I can buy the entire assembly, as all I have found is the stop plunger and cable, but no brackets etc ??

When  we were in that situation on the fleet we made our own from metal sheet. I am sure ASAP Supplies can provide the various cable clamps etc, but not the bracket that fits on those studs. I think two pieces of angle iron or aluminium would do the job.

they're both custom built jobs on ours

The HP pump side plate is missing from my engine, but that's easy to fabricate. The only part I think I will need from ASAP or Fleabay is the end clamp, as I can find the stainless clamps easily, might have a few in the odds and ends bin.
