Old film didn't represent colours correctly. Famously yellows appear as blacks, and reds often come out the same shade as greens - so the lining on railway engines disappears. I haven't come across this yet in the study of old boats

And my 6LW is white, sprayed while we had it in the workshop.

 

I've seen at least one Gardner which was white apparently from new. Also seen black and green, again apparently from new.

I'm painting my marine Lister FR 4 Bright Red. It looks sensational, (remembering beauty is in the eye of the beholder).
