I was replying to Big Col who implied my opinion was inbalanced and prejudice without cause.

While in one respect you are right, I dont live anywhere near nor would I be happy to live near a large community of criminals who have no fear of the law and prowl for anything they can weigh in or steal.

I would'nt like to drink in local bars where they went either because of what I have seen and experienced.

Its my opinon and I dont expect anyone else to like it or agree with it.

I just would'nt live there anymore I grew up in the area.

Cheers.

Inbalanced and prejudiced opinion. Well If you go and define prejudice, - Noun - Opinion formed beforehand or without Knowledge. Reread your comments bearing in mind that they should be referring to Billing Marina specifically not to Northampton or any part of, you will understand just why your comments are prejudiced and ill informed as far as relating to Billing Marina.Sue has given a definitive answer to life aboard at Billing, I think the readers will be able to judge for themselves between a genuine Billing moorer and an inbalanced and prejudiced opinion. You obviously had a unhappy time in Northampton, Perhaps you should have stayed at Billing Marina.

oh I was not aware that the whole criminal fraternity lived in Northampton!! Maybe my last 11 years of working for another police force was a figment of my imagination then :-)

There is a petrol station near Billing and I often see and speak to a Lady Traveller there and I have to say she is one of the nicest people I have met, your sentence above indicates that the whole site is involved in criminality,

Of course there are no thieves on the housing estates just the travellers site,

Hi Star

there are a five cats on the Marina that I know of, but are outnumbered by dogs :-)

maybe i should change my user name to ilovemynarrowboatandthemarina !!! lol it would be a mouthful on the 'chat' though

I have filled in a form online, watch this space, I did also add that I would be more than happy to help if they provide the protective clothing and the rubbish bags.

Lol oh dear some people!

I did not say the whole criminal fraternity live in Northhampton.

here

this one, off Lower Ecton Lane, if you come from Wellingborough, you can's miss it.

Joe took me down to this site for a snoop snoop :-) well we only drove passed it!! it is not the one I know of. The other one is further on towards Grendon and as i said surrounded by a very ornate wall and 'posh' gates :-)

Yes, I wasn't crazy about Billing, but looks like we are back to plan 104A, as the toys have been put back in the pram!

Hopefully be live aboard by the end of the summer!

Hi

We used to moor at billing aquadrome for 2 years

It very much depends what you want out of it

Plus points are

It's a nice big marina

Very friendly people on there

Cheap for what you get

Colin who runs the marina is a friendly and helpfull chap

On site security

Use of the swimming pool and facilities

Free passes to the events

Negative points

It's a big marina !!

Can get very choppy in the wind

The river has been known to flood and the marina evacuated

The smell can get very bad

Noisy in summer

The park itself is very badly managed

Think I will have my tuppence worth. I as all the rest of you on this site am in no way superior to anyone living on a travellers site. When I moved as a driving instructor to Chipping Norton after a short time I received a fone call from a girl asking about lessons and I said I could take her on she then said I bet you will not come when I tell you my postcode, it was a location known as " The Beeches " just outside the town and a travelers site, I asked if she had three heads and she said she didnt ( this is true ) It broke the ice..to cut a long story short I ended up being the only driving instructor to go there and had over about a 5 year period many happy customers from there. Now they ALWAYS paid me CASH before the lesson started unless they said before the lesson they were skint and they ALWAYS gave it to me without fail the next lesson they were all also very clean and extremely polite. I also had many customers from posh houses some of which eventualy would give me a cheque if I waited long enough. Yes some were untidy, have you looked at some boats on the cut lately ?

Snobbery and narrow mindedness is crass

try again, and thankyou!!

Hi Matty

the reply from the council as follows

Dear Mrs XXXXX

Thank you for reporting these issues. I have passed the information on the cleansing issue along that stretch of the A45 to the appropriate cleansing team for their attention. They are currently carrying out extensive cleansing works of the major carriageways in the Borough and should complete the work in this area soon.

I am not clear where exactly you mean by "next to Billing aquadrome on the 'old bedford road' " as Old Bedford Road is some distance away from that area. If you can let us know accurately where the problem is we can arrange for it to be dealt with.

If there's anything else we can help with, please let us know.

Watch this space :-)

What an excellent idea Colin and I am sure that when people actually vist the marina and park, they will see what wonderful facilities are there for everyone to enjoy. I for one am very very happy to moor my boat at the marina, and look forward to joining your wonderful community :)

Very nice of them. But in terms of what is good or bad business sense, I'd be more inclined to visit them to have a look round and consider a mooring if someone there replied to any of the three emails I have sent them over the course of four months to enquire.

Seems very odd star, but I have never had any problems getting in contact with Billing marina, but then I have never sent an email, I just phone them. Colin the marine manager is a very helpful chap maybe you could either phone up and ask for him or send him a pm here :) Plus as it costs nowt to go and visit, you know what they say 'nothing ventured, nothing gained' Maybe you could get a lift over.

I being a canny yorkshire woman always check things out first, by getting details then I prefare to vist places in person, so that I can talk to other moorers and get a feel for the place. Hope that helps a bit :)

Don't mind if I do.... My husband makes wooden gates and often delivers to a site near his workplace and NEVER had a problem either.

Star.

I have sent just one email and got a reply less than an hour later from Colin.

Can't say what is going adrift with your efforts, but check addresses etc. try a phone call followed by an email.

Don't want you to think ,granny and eggs syndrome.

Martyn

PS. Billing would seem a better option than where you are presently moored. I like Braunston and what it means etc.

You can only reflect on your positive experiences of having nice traveler customers but in doing so does not mean my negative life experiences are untrue or based on prejudice.

Thanks.

We have all had negative experiences in many sorts of ways through life but the fact is more people than not Immediately they see a travellers site slang them off and become negative. Further to my previous post I can also tell you from first hand experience that in my years as a Police Officer I had far far more serious trouble from people in posh suits with posh cars than I ever did with travellers.

I take your point but it is only right in ''your experience'' not everyones.

If people make judements based on no experience then that is prejudice I am just pointing out my opion is based upon my experiences.

Did you work as a traffic officer?

How many eviction notices have you served on illegal sites as a Police Officer roughly?

I was a class 1 police driver for about 5 years. I have never served an eviction notice on a travellers site personaly that in my day was done by a specialist dept. One tale I can tell was that in 1979 I was out in a car with the police gipsy liason officer when he said " fancy a cup of tea ? " Yes I says where we going........with that I saw a line of about 10 caravans parked on some waste land, one was a large trailer covered in shiny stainless steel and we parked outside it and the door opened, this was all new to me so when we went in I was gobsmacked......Immaculate and beautiful, the megga polite lady then lifted a cover and produced superb china cups etc......I learnt a lot that day.

Yes there are some lovely caravans out there and people.

I wonder how you would speak now if you had to serve eviction notices rather than pull posh folks in flashy cars

And - - exactly what are you trying to demonstrate, Kirra?

I dont think I need to exactly demonstrate anything!

My thoughts are if you only come into contact with posh folks in flashcars who you have pulled, that you have had more negative experiences with, but not travellers!

Then you are bound to think posh folks in flash cars are more trouble and hold a different opinion to someone who has the opposite experience with travellers!

I have noticed Billings offer runs out before the busy season starts.

Why not offer it for anytime if such comments really are considered erroneous?

June,July,August would be good too no?

Or pehaps the parking would be too busy?

How much is the parking otherwise?

Would give a good idea of how peaceful the place might be for someone wishing to live there.

All the best.
