For what it's worth. I've had both and the Sterling made a nice splash when it went into the water.

 

The Adverc has been brilliant for 14 years - fit and forget I think it's called.

As mentioned before, i thought the "clever" feature of the ADVERC was the periodic increase in voltage to 14.8,then returning to 14.4.

 

why does the sterling controller not have this feature?

Well I guess it could, if you were prepared to pay more than twice as much for it. You get what you pay for.

Don't you get that every time you tie up in a lock or pass another boat ;)
