Burnt out in a fire that spread from an adjacent boat in Stone. Since rebuilt with a tug deck IIRC.

Yes - rebuild was by the late Keith Ball, at Industry Narrowboats.

I am surprised to be told this was originally a Liverpool Boats shell - to my eye it didn't look much like one.

IIRC it was built by Stoke Boatbuilding. I recall Terry Darlington saying in "Narrow Dog to Wigan Pier" he went to the same boatbuilder for Phyllis May 2 because he was so pleased with the original.

Crossed the channel, travelled to the Mediterranean, cruised the entire length of the US East coast.... With no major issues.

 

...in the end she died by fire on her own home mooring in Stone. Spread from an adjacent boat.

And I remember the way on some the roof was folded down over the cabin side, I always think that must be impossible to protect from rust and is a recipe for future problems in that area.

You could call it Yarwoods of Northwich style.

 

And based on our experience, (2 different boats), you are absolutely correct.  One is welded, the other riveted, but the creeping rust still seems pretty well unavoidable.
