Rather Nice Looking "Tug Style" For Sale

To you (and others maybe) possibly not..but given it's a discussion forum I will re-make it.

My point is I find it surprising that people often try to sell boats costing many thousands but for whatever reason feel unable to spend a few quid on posting up some decent pic's on their duck ads. when it might advance their sale.

I wholly agree.

In fact when assessing an apollo duck advert I find myself inferring something about the vendor from the number and quality of the photos. It projects their seriousness about getting the boat sold, and even possibly their attitudes to maintenance. If they are too tight to shell out ten quid to put twelve photos on the ad, do they REALLY want to sell the boat? Will they have avoided spending ten quid on maintenance too whenever possible? Those oil filters are EXPENSIVE!

On the other hand, the text of the advert for Dudley is superbly crafted. I definitely want to buy this boat whatever it's like inside! Tigger doesn't need a thousand words to paint a beautiful picture, fantastic way with words! I bet Dudley gets sold in a flash.

I also think the price is too low in comparison to the many run-of-the-mill boats on the market for similar money. If I was in the market for a boat like Dudley I'd have jumped at it at £30k. I'd suggest raising the asking price immediately to £35k, unless sold already!

That's also my gut feeling, although I think the lack of knowing what the inside looks like makes it harder to judge.

Also hull condition is all important in a case like this, and you can't know that from the ad, (although Dominic's comments were interesting).

Because this boat is clearly "special" compared to many, the lack of photos wouldn't stop me making enquiries, and I'd be after Tiggers, trying to get some more info asap.

But for many of the boats on "The Duck" that don't stand out from a hundred or so other "trad sterned" modern builds, if there were no pics, I simply wouldn't bother, and would concentrate on those with the detail.

Unless there is something we don't know - I think this boat will be quickly sold. If I was looking for a tug-style boat from a really good builder, and at what looks like very sensible money, I'd be along to look at it very quickly.

To me the text is sadly lacking in terms of actual description of the accommodation, particularly as there are no pictures. Beyond saying the back cabin space is empty and the saloon is nice, and there's apparently a shower somewhere - where do people sleep, how many, etc? Fundamental information surely?

Well, (assuming it was built as a motor boat) there would appear to be four possible candidates by name, two of which are definitely not tugs, one of which is (but surely not for sale?) and one I know nothing about at all.

No its not Capricorn!

I think I've guessed and its boat that deserves to be cherished and have a lot more use than its had for years.

Well done Dawn.

Usually yes, but not in this case, in my view.

If I was in the market for a boat like Dudley the internal layout would not bother me, it can be changed. You can't change the builder or the style of the shell or easily the fact that is has a proper engine room with a proper engine so that is what I would be buying.

Would be nice if the internals were to my taste but an empty back cabin and a forward cabin that's all wrong would not a deal-breaker to me and quite likely not, I'd suggest, to a buyer like Alan either. In this case the lack of detail will probably raise the level of enquiries!

Agreed it's not the same as for a bog standard 57' floating cottage, but simple things like how many beds would help ;)

Well sorry to disappoint you all, but Dudley has just been sold to the second people who came to see her, within 24 hours, she is a very special boat. A real mixture of elation and sadness to see her go, onwards and upwards though!

Hoorah! Did the first people have no taste, then?

Well done, I hope the sale goes through smoothly for you. Obviously a good boat at the right price.

That must be worth a pint for the valuation and advice then. ;)

What, you buying me a pint because you valued it too low? ;) I shall certainly buy you a pint at some point sir, thanks for the advice. Right boat, right price.

Very happy as the new owners really are lovely, and I think she will be used as opposed to just sitting in a marina, although I have warned them that there will be monthly visits to check on the brass!

I will be visiting the 'new' boat tomorrow, with the view of getting the keys and sailing off into the sunset (well, Stafford way), at which point, I will divulge her name (although I think I was too kind with the clues and most of you have her now!).

I know I should be jumping for joy, but I cant help but feel a twinge of sadness, Dudley is an amazing boat, the kind you fall in love with instantly. Im sure it will all change when I am on the tiller of the new one, she needs someone to love her more than Dudley, hope I can do her justice.

If, as I suspect, the new owners go the first name initials of R & G then they'll will certainly do Dudley justice. They're a great couple and I've known them for some years. As for your new boat, [name redacted], I look forward to seeing that when you go past in a few days time.

Well the couple that put the offer in yesterday have just called to say they are pulling out, she is back up for sale....

Time wasting fender kickers - don't you just hate 'em...

That's a bummer -

Ed to add. - Tiggers I take it you are aware your ad. on the Duck has gone too - presumably because you believed Dudley was sold

Sorry to hear that.

Unfortunately it's so often the case when selling.

The buyer is ruled by his/her heart when viewing, then once home and slept on it........... the head takes over.

Good luck. I'm sure it will sell.

That's a shame I guess it's the way it happens sometimes but frustrating all the same. I can't see why you won't find another buyer soon.

With the interest which you have generated here, it's not impossible that a forum member may buy it!

If you do readvertise it, Tigger, a couple of interior photos (and one of the lovely Lister) would help to sell it.

Ive put a couple more pics on the Duck if anyone is interested :)

Tiggers - your old link is still not working but I found Dudley using the search facility on the duck - very nice looking boat, can I suggest you place the link in FS & wanted on the Forum too.. the mods usually pic. them up pretty quickly, might give you more coverage.

Now THAT's an advert which should sell her (again): engine porn, whoops, room, pic for the chaps, interior with kettle ( = cosy, homely, an inspired shot!) for the ladies, action photo at Hawkesley Junc.....Get ready for onslaught of customers!
