Can anyone help please? I'm trying to trace a company called 'Mallard Narrowboats' from Cambridge. I am after a HIN number from the company as it isn't stamped on the plate. There doesn't seem to any trace of them on the internet.

Many thanks.

Can't help with finding the firm but just to say that the RCD does not require the HIN no (now called a C(raft)IN rather than a H(ull)IN) to be shown on the CE or Builder's Plate. If the firm did it properly you should find it stamped into the stern on the starboard side. It should be about 50mm down from the top and within 300mm of the vertical centre line, in letters/numbers at least 6mm high.

You could also try asking the RYA who are a UK Notified Body for the RCD, quoting the boat's other details, they may be able to find it for you (again, if it's been done properly!).

Just a final thought but as Mallard were supposed to be in Cambridge somewhere maybe you could ask John Shotbolt at Bill Fen Marina - perhaps he might know.

Thanks Richard. I have found a plate in the engine compartment with all the details stamped on it, but alas, no HIN or CIN. I will certainly try John and the RYA. As you have probably gathered, there is no RCD document either. I'll let you know how I go on.

Thanks again.

How old is the boat and did you buy it as RCD compliant?
