AUDLEM FESTIVAL OF TRANSPORT

Featured Posts

Historic boats at Audlem Festival of Transport, 31 July.

This year's festival will have nearly 300 old cars, lorries and motorbikes, plus perhaps 15+ historic narrow boats at Audlem Wharf on the Shropshire Union. These include Saturn, the last Shroppie fly-boat, and four ex-FMC steamers (rare to see so many in one place).

Come and enjoy the day (it's all free), and if you'd like to bring your historic boat, contact Audlem Mill, who are organising the 'impromptu' boat gathering, on 01270 811059 to reserve a space.

A great option if you're not going to the IWA festival at Burton upon Trent!

Rather unfortunate that last year it was either the same weekend as Braunston or directly before/after and this year it is the same weekend as the IWA Festival.

We'll be going to Audlem, can't do with the IWA.

When we were tied up there on the way to Ellesmere Port, the owner of the shop there came out to chat and to encourage us to come. Tempted, if we're heading for home and not off somewhere else.

That was me! we do hope you can come; please phone when you know.

Many thanks

Just to confirm the 2012 Audlem Festival of Transport is on Sunday 29 July. We're expecting 35+ historic boats. Please put the date in your diary if you want to visit to see the boats (it's free), or want to enter your historic boat. If the latter, please ring organisers Audlem Mill on 01270 811059.

At 23 April, we have 34 historic boats booked in for this year's event on 29 July, and have virtually run out of space - with three months to go. It promises to be a great day out, with the boats and getting on for 300 veteran and classic vehicles. A free day out for everyone! This annual gathering of boats is fast establishing itself as a major event in the waterways calendar. Ring 01270 811059 (Audlem Mill) for more information.

Python is one of the boats booked in to be there. The crew are really looking forward to this event and we feel sure it is one not to be missed this year for anyone who enjoys historic boats

Just to remind you that the Gathering of Historic Boasts at Audlem is on Sunday 29 July. There will be around 35 boats moored in the three bottom pounds of the Audlem flight. This number is 50% up on last year, and that was a superb event. Free entry, and there's also the benefit of nearly 300 old vehicles on the village playing field.

I'm afraid I've just had to write and cancel Chertsey's attendance - it clashes with a big concert my son (principal double bass in the East Sussex Youth Orchestra) is playing in in London, and getting there and back for the afternoon concert will take all of Sunday so we would miss nearly the whole festival. I don't know whether they have a list of reserves, in any case this might be an opportunity for someone else to go, I hope. Really sorry to be missing it, but I'd be even sorrier to miss Sebastian's gig.

We are aiming to be there.....hope it all still goes ahead and isnt cancelled due to the weather.....does anyone know whereabouts visiting modern boats can moor btw??

The event in itself won't be affected by the weather - it will go ahead whatever. But the weather may affect (i) the number of visitors coming to see the 35 historic boats and 300 old vehicles, and (ii) actually how many of the vehicles turn up, as many old vehicles don't seem to venture out in the rain!

Re mooring for boats not actually entered into the event, there's 3/4 mile of moorings (14 day) immediately below (to the north of) the Audlem flight, with convenient winding hole, or there may be some spaces between locks 11 and 12 (48 hour limit). This pound takes about nine boats. Otherwise, there's nowhere to moor on the flight, except for a few 48 hr spaces between locks 2 and 3. Mooring for 14 days is permitted above the flight (above lock 1), but this is a walk of a mile to the event.

Hope this helps - any queries, ring organisers Audlem Mill on 01270 811059

Advance notice - next year's gathering of boats for the Audlem Festival of Transport is over the weekend of 27/28 July 2013. We had 35 historic boats this year, an increase of 50% on last year, but can accommodate just over 40.

Owners of boats that have attended in the past will be contacted, but if you haven't been before, and would like to bring your boat to this informal, friendly and strictly non-commercial gathering, please contact Audlem Mill on 01270 811059 or info@audlemmill.co.uk.

Just to say that we only have three spaces left for this year's gathering of historic boats at Audlem on 28 July. We can only fit 42 boats into the three lock pounds available to us. Bookings will be taken on a first come, first served basis. Why not come to what is probably the most informal and friendliest event in the north west? Ring 01270 811059 to book your place - no charge to enter, though there's a small charge for the wonderful BBQ on the Saturday night.

This year's gathering of historic boats at Audlem is on 26/27 July (always the last weekend in July) - two days instead of one from this year. The Festival of Transport, with 300 historic vehicles close to the canal, is on the afternoon of 27 July.

We can take about 42 ex-working boats, and many bookings have already been received, but there's room for some more boats. It's best to book soon, as last year we were nearly fully booked by the end of March. Either ring 01270 811059, or download the booking form via the link in the blue box at bottom right at www.audlemmill.co.uk. There is no charge to enter a boat.

We have now got 50 boats booked in, so this event is getting to be one of the biggest in 2014!

It's free to attend, and on the Sunday afternoon, there is also the Audlem Festival of Transport - about 300 historic vehicles. And that's free too....
