Apps Useful To Boaters

Andy, thanks for that. I've now tried Maverick and it certainly looks impressive.

But (doh!) I'm not sure what I would use it for! I can see that I could create a track ( of a day's cruise probably) but then what?

I looked around the web for help but I think I have missed out on some advances in mapping apps.

Any help appreciated,

Rob

It might just be me and my slighly twisted head but I can't take you seriously because of your profile pic that appears on every post laughing its head off at me/the person you're replying to :)

PS. No offense intended incase you're the sensentive type.

Bus Checker is the most useful one I have it allows me to moor in middle of nowhere and see where nearest bus stop is and the times and destinations of busses. I just turn it on when I am ready to stop and moor at closest point to bus stop.

Is that UK Bus Checker, John. Costs £2.49

I got Bus Checker a couple of weeks ago for free. It was obviously a trial as its just told me the trial has ended. Paid the £2.49 as it will be invaluable.

Can I recommend Google maps for bus and rail timetables. Just choose appropriate mode of transport.

Put a location as the start and then press the arrow symbol wirh a destination choose the type of transport and then choose your options.

It works on my pc and phone.

Just tried it for Little Bollington to Stretford, and it can't find any public transport - I guess it's looking for door to door which might not be appropriate for canal side to canal side.

Bus Checker shows a map with bus stops on it. Click on the bus stop and it shows each bus and it's destination - suits my needs better than google maps in this instant. Not to say that Google Maps isn't great for lots of stuff.

I find it too unreliable using Google Maps for public transport, I do however used Moovit which seems to be quite good.
