Lister JP4 keel tank size

Featured Posts

hi, the size will depend to some extent on coolant flow rate, the standard pump, designed for raw water cooling will probably not pump enough water around to cool the engine sufficiently, you can compensate for this by increasing tank size/ surface area. but it might be better to find a larger capacity pump. there is a page somewher on the jabsco site which gives required flow rates for different cooling methods and also for spark ignition and compression ignition engines.

What is it in?

A JP4 in a NB will not be doing any real work (even running in deep water on a river) so will not be generating a lot of heat.

As far as skin cooling tank surface area, I would go for as big as you can physically get in. It's better to have surplus cooling ability rather than trying to rectify lack of cooling ability.

Then control the engine temp with a thermostat.
