David Schweizer Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 (edited) The observant amongst you may have noticed my occassional lurking over the past week, but minus my normal intervention of opinionated comment as is my usual habit. I have had my operation, and was released from Hospital on Monday evening last week after a 12 days stay. According to the Surgeon my operation went very well with no complications, and not even the need for a transfusion, and everything appears to be healing up nicely. I managed to get my preference of a neo bladder, which is the most complicated of all three possible alternatives, and the most demanding outcome to come to terms with initially, but in the long term the closest to normality. Unfortunately, I remain feeling very tired and weak most of the time, which means that I am something of a burden to Jan (more so than normal!!), who, along with our daughter Kate, is looking after me very well. We are back off to Hospital later this morning for a cystogram to check that my new bladder is not leasking, and hopefully removal of the last tube emerging from my body, so things are improving, albeit very slowly. Of course, it will still be quite a few weeks before anything approaching normality emerges. I do not have a lot of energy at the moment, so I will probably remain pretty silent for a while yet, which will no doubt please some of you. I will try to respond to any PM's but hope people will understand if I am a bit slow. My aim is still to be fit enough to take the boat to Braunston for the Historic Boat Rally, but only time will tell. Edited April 27, 2010 by David Schweizer
NB Alnwick Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 Welcome back David and I am sure many will echo my best wishes for your return to full participation in the forum and active enjoyment of your boating . . .
luctor et emergo Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 Good news, glad to hear that the procedure went well. All the best for your recovery.
Nightwatch Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 As usual I'm not that great at words. I endorse the above comments and wish you a speedy return to boating. Martyn & Crew
soldthehouse Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 Excellent news, I've gone all gooseflesh on my arms David we are so pleased for you, I'll bet the birds sound great and and hope things continue in this way for you, regards Stuart
alan_fincher Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 Can't say a lot more than the others really. Yes - I was aware of you lurking, but of two minds whether to PM you for news, or whether you needed your privacy - I know others felt the same. I'm sure we are all really glad to finally hear that things have gone really as well as you might have expected. People would love to see you at the Braunston show, but whilst it's useful to have a target to aim for, you should be realistic and take the time your body needs to get over all this. Don't "beat yourself up", if it doesn't seem a good idea nearer the time. (That's probably fairly bizarre advice from the man who was boating 6 weeks after smashing his pelvis, and who is now dog walking up to a couple of miles at a time!.... )
stickleback Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 Great news! When is Braunston? - and good luck with getting to the rally! Stickleback
wrigglefingers Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 WE're very pleased to have you back on(the)board(s), David. Now pull up a comfy chair - if tea's allowed, we'll get you a cup, and the beer is chillin' in the fridge for when you're ready. I daresay someone's got a bag of popcorn to share and a good squabble will be passing our way anytime soon ......
Bones Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 so things are improving, albeit very slowly. Very pleased to hear it, and may they continue to do so! I am delighted to hear the op went well and you are being looked after well too. Continue to get well!
RLWP Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 Good to have you back David Richard Looking forward to you becoming your obstreperous, argumentative self again, in the nicest possible way of course
Mick_B Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 Great news David. may it be bright and blissfull for the future.
Grace and Favour Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 Great to 'see' you back, David - - I'm sure the sun will be brighter, the weather warmer and the sound of laughter even more precious to you. Enjoy it all

alan_fincher Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 Good to have you back David Richard Looking forward to you becoming your obstreperous, argumentative self again, in the nicest possible way of course We'll know that David is not back to full strength until he gets around to commenting on my post count having passed through the 10,000 mark! After all he did make a big production of it when I hit the rather less significant figure of 9000!

alan_fincher Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 You need a more time consuming hobby Alan.... Too much time on your hands.. You are not wrong, although a fractured pelvis has made many of the outdoor hobbies out of bounds, of late. My post rate is still only about half that of another regular contributor who is paid by somebody to do a full time job though - at least it's only my own time I'm wasting, not an employer's!

Budge up, I got the crisps, any fizzy pop? I hope those are Paprika flavour crisps? I can do you a G&T without the G if you want? I could do you a G&T with the G if you so wish...

luctor et emergo Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 (edited) I've got cheese and biscuits and hand-ground coffee - any room? oh nice. But there is much better entertainment in the waved to the nearside thread. Lets not derail this thread to much. It might get David to keen to join into the fray to soon.. Edit for spiling... You see, David, even though you've sadly been away - nothing changes that much around here ....

bargemast Posted April 28, 2010 Report Posted April 28, 2010 Congratulations David, good to know that everything went well and I hope that you'll recover quickly, but don't try to do anything that requires more strenght than you have for the time being, it all takes, and needs time. All the best, Peter.
