Dri Deck and decking alternatives

Hi all,

I want to protect the deck on our wide beam once it has been painted.

I have seen Dri deck tiles but feel they are expensive at £4.99 per tile.

Has anyone seen or is using a good alternative.

If so your experience of the product along with an approx cost and where can we get it would be much appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

What about wood?

I did it with hard wood decking, smaller and thinner than standard decking.

Made in four sections so you can get to engine

Makes an authentic deck

Looks good, but is it not slippery when your feet are wet?

Hi

Not ever. (- maybe today if its iced over)

You can't see it, but the boards have thin grooves like ordinary decking.

I have left 1/2" gaps between the boards to let water through to drain.

You could try canalman on the forum. He used to sell rolls of rubber decking approx 25mm thick nice and soft to stand on all day.

It looked like a mat of rubber egg boxes, free draining I can't remember the exact size but from my aged memory they were something like 1mx3/4m, certainly better value than dri-deck.

I bought something similar from Homebase. Separate mats, each about 75 x 50 cm, for about £7 a shot. Use it in the front well deck. Just make sure the pimples are facing down to allow drainage.

Those rubber mats with holes in that they sell at Wilkinsons also come in big rolls made by Rolson.

It's good for a bow well deck or a recessed stern deck, but I'm not sure you'd want it on a flat cruiser deck where it might be a bit of a trip hazard.

I have looked on the internet for a roll and cannot find anything....do you know if Wilko's sell it on a roll as it is not on their website?

It sounds ideal.

Thanks.

Google for Rolson anti fatigue mat.

Hi

If he mean what I think he means, they are individual door mats.Mats

You can cut them into the deck space and it can be quite succesful.

You may need to buy a dozen!

There's one here http://www.gx-security.co.uk/advanced_sear...?keywords=60819

But at £25 Wilkos is cheaper for the coverage, (if you can't get the Rolson for <£11.25 Wilkos is cheaper).

Cracked it.

B & Q interlocking rubber matting.

£14.95 per square yard.

Not bought yet as need to measure but looks good to me.

All I want now is a good deal on 4 top boxes.

Thank you for your help.

I'm interested in this too......

But does it have some kind of rubber "bobbles" on the underside that keep it raised away from the floor, please ?

If it were only a heavy rubber mat with holes in, the water will probably never fully drain away, and the likelihood is that the paint on the underlying surface will suffer, and rust probably start.

(I've seen that often with boats with unsuitable mats of the holed variety, particularly amongst boats being sold at brokerages.)

It has rubber bobbles underneath, I know what you mean.

It seems to interlock easliy to prevent tripping.

Looks of good quality and can be cut to shape.

We found it on the carpet/mat section at B and Q.

We will be fitting/buying v soon as the boat is handed over mid Feb, do you want us to 'test drive' before you buy?

Those cheap rubber mats from Wilkinsons can be cut to fit and wear well.

Sue

I bought a few Wilkinsons mats to try. Looked OK so went back for the rest which I had to order.

Now have two different thicknesses - Chinese quality control?

Will probably take them all back.

We manufacture a similar product to Dri-Dek call Versatile. www.versatile-flooring.co.uk

I would be happy to send you a sample if you would like.

Did the designer previously work for Lego?

Looks better for air flow underneath than the Wilkos doors mats as well (thinking for under ballast here as well), wouldn't mind a sample. Will leave a PM - just seen you have sample option on the site, will leave details there.

Got a sample the other week and it does look like what I'm after for under the ballast esp. when compared to Wilko's rubber doormat. Main advantage is there is a 9mm gap under the main mat for drainage (or airflow) it's a lot harder rubber than the doormats.
