A major cruise for us in 2010, and one that we've been planning for several years.

We're travelling from Stone in Staffordshire down to London and back to do the Thames Ring, hopefully meeting up with a few forum members along the way.

We're out cruising for the whole of May, having each managed to secure a month off from the dreaded w**k and getting an excellent deal from the hire company.

Janet

Shire Cruisers will no doubt miss your regular custom - enjoy the new waters

Well there's one notable omission there, the Great Ouse. We'll be there later in the summer

Our plan is to join up with Janet down to London. then up the Thames and staying around to include Devizes and Lechlade before completing the loop via the Oxford to Braunston.

Then down the Nene to cross the Middle Level and spend some time on the Great Ouse to Bedford before retracing our steps back to Milton Keynes (15 minutes from Bedford to MK by car, at least 2 weeks by boat!)

Allan

Let us know in advance when you will be visiting Bedford/anywhere along that section of the Ouse & we will try to meet up with you if thats ok.

As long as we are not out on Silkwood up T'North where we will be based next year at Acton Bridge

Excellent. We'll do that.

Last time we made it up to Kempston Mill, in rather full river conditions. I doubt we'll go that far upstream this time.

Well I retire next year in the Autumn and I am beginning to plan a little trip before I begin my new employment

So far I have got: -

1) A stopover in Iceland on the way to Canada's East coast

2) Fish for Pike for a few days in North East Canada

3) Cross Canada on that very long train route to the Pacific (I love trains and Canada in the fall will be stunning)

4) Fish for Salmon on the Canadian east coast

5) Hire a Triumph Rocket 3 and ride down the Pacific Highway stopping where I want but ending in near Mexico

6) Head for Florida visiting places like New Orleans on the way

7) Do some sea fishing in Florida

After that I suppose I'll have to come home from somewhere

The essence of the trip is that I have no schedule - only destinations

I have no idea if I can make it happen but I'd like to try - transport will be as I like; train; bike; bus; car; whatever

Googled this and found

Motorcycle Rental Florida

Start your tour at the Pure Triumph Store in sunny Downtown Fort Lauderdale

Call (+1) 954-343-6074 or email rentals@pure-triumph.com

Pure Cycle Rentals, LLC can only accept Visa or Mastercard for any transactions.

I liked this bit

The Triumph Rocket III is now available for rental, with certain requirements which must be met. All renters who opt for the Rocket III must be 30 years or older and have had a motorcycle endorsement on their driver’s license for at least 5 years.

These renters must also have current riding experience similar to the riding experience of the Rocket III. (In other words someone who has experience of riding an equivalent large and powerful machine.)

The management of Pure Cycle Rentals reserve the right to refuse rental to any person who cannot display the skills necessary to handle the powerful Rocket III. The daily rental rate for this bike is $199/day, plus insurance and tax. The minimum required insurance is $15/day, plus a one-time $3 processing fee. We also offer optional insurance coverage packages for additional fees.

Bet they don't have this provision for Harley hire and you've got to have endorsements on your licence - perfect

Current plan is 2 weeks doing the Leicester ring in April - from Napton though might go down to Oxford -can't make our mind up at the moment.

We wanted a week on the Lancaster in January but either no one's hiring that month or they don't take pets

Our annual trip to the Dordogne in July - long drive but we love it....

I believe you remember rightly for those days

Triumph now have a Rocket 3 built at their new factory in Hinckley

Its a beast - 3 cylinder, in line, 2.3 litre engine - a right monster and I'd really like to try one

The factory is right next door to the Ashby canal which threads it's way between the Triumph factory and a massive Tesco distribution warehouse.

Yes I passed it on the canal on my one and only narrowboat trip

Awesome - I bowed in obeisance of course

Good morning? pouring with rain here!!!

Next year I am hoping to have Penguin transported from Beccles to the GU near Stoke Breurne and spend two -three months cruising to Llangolen with side trips.

I am keeping my fingers crossed as well as everything else because my luck for boatin was not very good this year

First of all my spring start was delayed by the firm making my new windscreen taking six months [couldn't get new canopy 'till this was fitted] Then Ollie my dog had to have his spleen removed, this caused some weeks delay because he wasn't able to jump on and off the boat. When i finally got away in September I was called home because my house had been burgled, they hadn't taken much only a lot of paperwork but this caused a lot of work--changing of bank a/cs etc, plus I had to wait for my insurance to fit one new door and repair another. So I never went   back.

So heres hoping!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He knows not where he's going

The canals and rivers will decide

its not the destination

but the glory of the ride.

Hi All

We are going to try the Tidal Thames next year in May. Now we are moored on the River Wey, the local Boat Club has kindly agreed that we can "tag along" with them when they make their way to Little Venice for the Rally in May. So we won't be going alone.

We will not be staying at the Rally, so not sure what we will do once we get to Brentford (all suggestions welcome - we will have about 3 days before we have to start back).

Cheers

Jo.

Now that's interesting. I've always known it as Les Williams Slippery Sam as Les built it. My Father-in-law knew Les and we used to borrow his gas set to weld up Mark1 Escorts.

Richard

Father-in-law knew Norman Hyde too.

oh my god! that piccie takes me back. she's beautiful. trident was always a dream for me - and always just out of reach. had to make do with a tiger (bike, not stripey big cat).

anyway, our schedule: 1. cruise hull back from cheshire to northants

2: spend rest of my life fitting out.

future years just repeat 2 ad infinitum

cheers

nigel

and if anyone sees us give us a toot.
