Alternator amps and dc charger

Featured Posts

Hi everyone

I want to fit an alternator to battery charger, I currently have a twin alternator set up, but do not know their output. Is their an easy way to test the amps? otherwise is it acceptable to fit a charger with the highest available amperage rating? Presumeably if one was fitted with a lower rating than the alternator output it would burn out.

Are you referring to the Sterling gizmo?

My first chance ......................

Yes you can fit the biggest one without knowing the size of the alternators. It will be fine.

However, for less money you can fit a SmartGauge and SmartBank Advanced which will achieve the same thing plus a thousand other things plus battery monitoring and do it better.

I have no commercial interest whatsoever in the SmartGauge other than as a happy ex designer.

Is that fair?

Also cleans a big, big carpet, for less than half a crown.

(Mmmmm! Smart products. I never eat anything else.)

Hi

If you can tell us which engine you have I am sure we will be able to tell you which alternators are likely to be fitted.

Both those posts kinda sound like Dick Van Dyke selling his hair cutting service at the circus.

I'm an engineer. I get sat in a cellar, told what to do, I do it. If I'm lucky I get pulled up out of the cellar now and again, walked around for ten minutes then thrown back in the dudgeon. Occasionally I get given some water
