Looks really good!

Any thoughts on a pocket pc version?

I've not got a pocket PC to try it on, although I'm currently looking at doing a Linux version for use on the tiny netbook type PC's that yuo can get for £150.

Some other people have asked for an iPhone version too - although I dont have one of those either!

If you can record the GPS signal on your pocket PC you can upload it to the website to keep track of your journey - but you wont get the mapping functions of Navvy.

A Linux version would be the way to go - the iPhone and the Mac both run Unix so porting over would be fairly easy. It is the early stage of the process, but them dominance of Windows is coming to an end. The Unix/Linux systems are finally gathering momentum.

The software *almost* works on Linux at the moment using the Mono project's software http://www.mono-project.com/Main_Page

I'm just finishing off a few rough edges!

The iPhone version would have to be very different, but the Mac version should be fairly straightforward (again using the Mono package)

If you've got a Linux version almost working, then I'd recommend trying to get it ported to work on Android - looks like a lot of handset manufacturers are heading down Android as an OS.

And I've got an Android phone

Up to post#1, I was OK then it all went fuzzy.

Stuart,

Downloaded and working, correctly put me on the Stoudwater Canal, wrong bank but that may be the GPS.

Brilliant, hope to start using it in earnest at the end of the month.

Thanks to everyone who's had a try of my software - about 100 of you over the weekend from this forum alone!

Many thanks and let me know how you get on.

Nice programme.

Why does it say "Next winding - waiting for direction fix" all the time?

Possibly due to lack of winding holes on the Gt Ouse??

Stuart,

Is it possible to run Navvygator without an internet connection?

& How much data does it need to download while on the move?

That could be it! If you go into the settings you can switch off the display of winding holes

Yes! It doesnt download anything whilst on the move (it does if you have the background road maps switched on - but this is not essential).

If you install it on a laptop whilst at home, it will grab the latest maps at that point, then go to the boat, go cruising for a week etc. when you get home it will then upload your journey to the site and also download any updates etc.

Hi, I've tried installing on two XP machines (home and pro) and it fails after installing and running the Navvygator.application (5.3kb) with the dialog box:

Cannot download application. The application is missing required files. Contact application vendor for assistance.

On both machines I have tried to install via Firefox and both have .NET Framework 2.0 & Windows Installer 3.1 installed.

Any help appreciated...

Thats a strange one!

I've installed it on about 6 PC's myself and there are now over 400 registered working installs in the "wild"

Have you just tried clicking on the "launch" link on the website?

I use both crunch bang and unbuntu on my computer and couldnt do without these especially when my Windows does a pooper! I read in the latest issue of PC advisor that Windows 7 will end the threat of dominance by Linux!!!!

Yup, same result. Having a dig through the generated error report, I found this:

ERROR SUMMARY
Below is a summary of the errors, details of these errors are listed later in the log.
* Activation of C:\Documents and Settings\abc\My Documents\Downloads\Navvygator(2).application resulted in exception. Following failure messages were detected:

Me too, was a wondering that!

Will it work on a Nokia N95?

Many thanks

Rob

I doubt that I'd get a port over to mobiles very quickly. Although you dont actually need to use the software to record your journey and make use of the stats that gives you.

If your mobile phone has built in GPS (like the Android and N95 and Blackberry etc.) just record your route to a GPX file and then upload that to the WaterExplorer site.

It will then use this to give you full breakdown of your route, average speed, locks and also show it all on a map.

I think some of the files have partially downloaded and each time you try its using a local cached copy instead of downloading for real.

Can you simply delete the folder called

C:/Documents and Settings/abc/My Documents/Downloads/Navvygator_2_0_0_1

and try the download once more?

The files are not normally placed in the "My Documents" folder - are you sure you have the .net2 framework installed ?
