Engine Day at Prickwillow Museum

Featured Posts

Peter Carter, the only remaining eel catcher in East Anglia, will be giving a talk at the museum about his art on May 17th.

He will be firing his 11-foot long punt gun from his 17-foot floating punt and the classic engines will be run at intervals during the afternoon.

I like the, "his art", comment!

I wish I had time to go along. Seeing and hearing a punt gun firing must be awesome.

Back in the early 70's, the family was exploring the area (by boat) and stumbled across the pump house. The 'museum' was either in its infancy or not even formed. The pump house was unlocked and we 'let ourselves in'.

It was very different to how it is today. I may even have some photographs of it somewhere.

The museum there will forever have a special place in my heart, as the first place ever to give me a Pensioner's Discount. It didn't say "Old Age Pensioner" on the board, just "Pensioner", so having taken early retirement at the age of 55 I was now in receipt of a pension and therefore I was a Pensioner. They happily gave me the discount - so I gave the extra as a donation anyway - and I stuck the ticket into our logbook as a reminder.

I'd love to see that punt gun being fired!
