Just had the first overnighter on Ripple for the year. We arrived at the marina at around 11 on Saturday: as it was frozen we weren't going to move, especially as we were going to a Ceilidh in Stroud on Saturday evening and needed the car. Had a walk down the old canal to Framilode for a pint at the Ship Inn (nice pub but no real ale: they normally do have but bad weather meant no delivery) where we heard the Ceilidh had been cancelled. So we dashed back to the boat and broke the ice out of the marina

Main canal was clear so we pootled to Church End, two miles and two swing bridges. Beautiful view over the Severn to the Forest of Dean. Supper on board and then off the Three Horseshoes (another post on that).

Today had a walk round Frampton, bought the paper at the Local Shop, lunch in the Bell and then the short cruise to base. Good to have been afloat again

Sounds lovely - Bet you feel as though you've had a much longer holiday!

That's the kinda trip we do during term-time weekends...a few hours down the cut from Swanley to Wrenbury - dinner at the local pub (Cotton Arms) and the return journey the following day after doing the Sunday papers and full English!

Great to hear you've been afloat again!

We do! It's the second time we've done a mini weekend and somehow they just seem to stretch out!

I know the Cotton Arms, and also can relate to the Sunday papers and full English: this time it was bacon and mushroom rolls cooked on board, last time it was the full breakfast at the black shed at Slimbridge

Nice to hear you had a great time.

Unless you have been doing some serious ice-breaking, I can only assume it's a lot less cold where your boat is than where ours is.

At the moment we could only go anywhere at the expense of a removing a lot of blacking.

Anyway, I'm not sure the old tub actually has the power to push it's way through it!

Hi Alan,

amazing the difference a few miles make. We cruised up from the Grove to Apsley marina then back to Kings Langley yesterday and there was no ice anywhere !

Like the OP says, it was nice to be cruising again after all the snow and ice.
