MERRY MONTH OF MAY BRINGS A RECORD BOAT LIFT BONANZA

Anderton Boat Lift is already on course for a record breaking fourth season after shattering yet another of its records for visitor numbers.

More than 1,800 visitors flocked to Cheshire’s most popular working heritage monument on May Bank Holiday Sunday, 600 up on the same day last year.

Centre Manager Andy Whitehouse said the Victorian attraction, along with its interactive operations centre were now a must see for Cheshire visitors, with a new record of 402 customers paying to cruise on the elegant glass topped Edwin Clark trip boat on Bank Holiday Monday.

“May is always a good indicator of what we can expect in terms of visitor numbers for the coming season,” said Mr Whitehouse.

“The additional visits to the centre this May Bank Holiday Sunday than last is a strong indicator that we have got the product just right and we are fast becoming Cheshire’s latest must see attraction,” he added.

Meanwhile, the centre is pressing ahead with its ambitious development programme, with the planned opening of its Weaver Walk Snack Shop and the ‘splashtastic’ Canal Adventure Play attraction for children.

Anderton Boat Lift is open seven days a week including Bank Holidays between 10.00am – 5.00pm. And for its fourth season, Anderton boasts a range of new attractions and events for visitors of all ages.

Anderton Boat Lift began this season by winning the coveted title of “Quality Assured Visitor Attraction”, awarded by the English Tourism Council.

Only 16 Cheshire attractions have Visitor Attraction Quality Assurance Scheme status, with Anderton Boat Lift now sharing centre stage with heritage centres like Beeston Castle, Tatton Park, Arley Hall, Norton Priory and Cholmondley Castle Gardens.

Leaflets are available at all major tourism offices and other outlets. Details of opening times and events can be obtained by calling 01606 786777 and by visiting www.andertonboatlift.co.uk
