Wasthill tunnel fire?

Featured Posts

Spotted this on the waterwaysworld.com website. Anyone know anymore? It sounds nasty.

It's possible for smoke and fumes, maybe just from cabin stoves or a smoky engine, to become concentrated in one area of a tunnel. The next boat through will then push this 'plug' of smoke ahead of itself, and the effect can be quite dramatic when that smoke is seen to emerge from vents or portal. I know of at least one occasion when the fire brigade was called to Preston Brook tunnel in just that situation, there was nothing actually wrong.

Of course I know nothing about the Wast Hill incident, there may indeed have been more substance to that.
