DEBDALE Lock at Cookley on the Staffs & Worcs Canal will be closed next week after the May Bank Holiday until the afternoon of Saturday 7th May.

 

Glad I checked we were setting off yesterday for Stourport!

"DEBDALE Lock at Cookley on the Staffs & Worcs Canal will be closed next week after the May Bank Holiday until the afternoon of Saturday 7th May.

 

Says British Waterways

 

"An engineering inspection has indicated that the offside lock wall is moving. A temporary emergency stoppage is required to enable us to install a number of ground anchors along the failed section of the wall. This will ensure that the wall is stabilised.

 

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused. To ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum the works are starting subsequent to the May Bank Holiday weekend and the canal will reopen to navigation on the afternoon of Saturday 7th May."
