Welcome,

I think you will find that the transport company have insurance to cover loss when in their care,

If you check your own insurance, you may find road transport is not covered, Or phone them.

It is likely that the transporter co will only insure against damage caused by their negligence. Ask them! Check your own insurance/ask them

Check your policy, but typically boat insurance does not cover you when the boat is under the control of boatyard staff and other paid professionals. I imagine the latter would include crane and transport operators.

I have heard of transporters/crane operators stating that the liability is all on the owner. Whether or not it was true in those cases, you really need to ask whomever you're paying to do the job (and get a response in writing) if you can't see it clearly stated in a contract.

do I need to get extra insurance for when boat is being moved on road on back of a lorry? Does my regular boat insurance cover that? Thanks for your help.

Have a look at the policy wording and that will say whether transport is covered.

Do not rely on the haulage contractors cover alone.

I had to sign to that effect when I had our boat lifted to take to be launched, it also included if anything happened to the crain like getting stuck.

I don't remember about the road transport

@wandering snail may have more information on this

All our boat transportation back and forth to Europe, (and there was a lot of it!) also in the UK, was completely covered by the haulage firm, as was any lifting gear. We were never asked to sign anything.
