Hello, trying to do some research on our Simolda built narrowboat. We think it was originally named “queen sarah” does anybody happen to have old photos of simolda hire boats? Or old brochures etc? Would be fascinating to see how it used to look etc ! Thanks in advance.

It's not a name returned in a search on CanalPlan. Nor is Queen Sarah so I wonder what the OP's boat is called now?

I have found a Simolda brochure which we acquired when we hired Queen Florence & Queen Christine in Aug 1985.

I am amazed that I still have it, and that I could find it.

Send me an address in a PM (for confidentiality) and I'll post it to you.

Note that you probably can't do a PM until you have done a certain number of posts.  

Just keep posting on here with any old garbage text until you've done enough that PM works.

 

We hired the 2 boats for a week to do a bellringing trip:

dep: Nantwich

Friday: Bunbury 14-3-11 F

Monday: Chester 24-3-0 D

Tuesday: Middlewich 20-0-20 E

Thursday: Sandbach 13-1-5 F 

Thursday: Nantwich 14-2-18 F 

(Approximately - If I've deciphered my notes correctly)

The weather was atrocious.

Oh wow that’s amazing! Does it mention Queen Sarah in the brochure? Or have pictures of her?

Yes it won’t be as our boat is named Eric since the 90s we’ve been told, and we checked there all that came up for the number was Eric. Thanks

Never do any work in response to queries from newcomers to the forum.  I did the search, replied with an offer of the results - and the response I got was: nothing.  Not even a 'sorry, no longer interested'.  There may be a good reason why not in this case, but my impression is this happens too often for that.

We hired boats from Simolda in the 60's and early 70's . Our first hire was of the Ethel Mary, which was the Simolda family boat when we first went, and then became part of their hire fleet, named after his wife, I believe. Later we hired Tracy Anne and Sarah Anne, which they had made in their works in Crewe when trade was slack. We did Oxford and back in a fortnight, with Tracy Anne.  On our first trip on Ethel Mary we did the Four Counties and the Calden to near Milton. We ran out of fuel on the new cut on the Saturday morning, going back to Nantwich.
I believe the Queens were later builds.
