The comment from an ex employee of Springers is interesting.

Mind you not surprising as it's true of so many canal related videos.

Where did they get that picture of Nudge Nudge at 28:10 in?

I have never published it, never scanned it, it's sitting in a crate of old prints waiting for a round tuit to appear to properly scan and archive.

My son at about fifteen years old on a family fortnight's holiday 1985 ish on the springer that my brother and two mates bought as a shell and fitted out themselves in Uxbridge, Denham Yacht Station.

Perhaps I gave my brother a print.

I didn't get to the end of the video, it's AI surely? The artificial voice, stilted delivery, the mispronunciations, esp. 'Hosea-sons', straight out of the Old Testament, which did at least raise a laugh. But also the images, some barely relevant, and those that were are not synchronised to the text. Dividing the leisure boating world into those who own converted ex-FMC boats and those who own Springers is very sad ... and so it goes on.

When I worked at Foxton in the 80s I was told that Sam Springer started out making heating oil tanks, and the quote was "A boat's only a f***ing tank with a f***ing point on it". Bring on Danny Dyer for the re-enactment.

The early Harborough Marine boats had a good underwater shape and swam well (the very first were wooden, I think), the contrast with the Springer concept could hardly be greater.

Same here. The longer I watched the more irritating it became, especially the stilted voice and the complete disconnect between the narative and the images being displayed.

Also the clickbait title. I got 75% of the way though before giving up on it and not a mention of the business going bankrupt so far.

Or where any "greed" came into it.

Indeed I believe the first boat was called Puset Tusek   and was  taken to the IWA Marole Rally  at Marple in 1966 as a trade exhibit . Shropshire Union  Cruisers also brought  their Cutlass  square sterned steel boat  as an exhibit .  Later Harborough  boats incorporated the same shape in steel

Definitely AI generated, it also lists its sources if you notice.

Impressive what ai can do, as long as we can still keep recognising it....

I disagree. What AI has done here is deeply unimpressive, clunky and obvious.

The AI work good enough for us not to notice is the tuly impressive stuff. Which of course we will never be aware of.
