I see that Zack Polanski's boat (which he does not live on of course 😃) is for sale at £100,000. What makes it so much more valuable than most narrowboats?

In the case of London boats for sale it is typically the vague indication that the boat comes with a transferable mooring.

Looks like an attempt to influence voting. Didn't work did it ?

I didn’t realise who he was, shows that he’s not really a political house hold name.

Was interested in looking at the boat. Can’t find a for sale Ad/Link, probably quickly taken off line.

I agree, seems expensive, especially with an old BMC taxi engine that seems to have had fairy recent major trouble (head gasket x 2 & injector pump). I don't think 2.2 engine spares are so easy to find now, apart from service items.

Thanks, but sounds nothing special, BMC ? Was expecting something older, mid engine room.

 Not worth £100K

I don't know if it is on a residential mooring - would that make it more expensive?

I am sure it would, but by London prices that does not seem likely.

Making something out of nothing with regard to his Council Tax. CT or Business Rates being included in the mooring fee is common practice. At least he is contributing something to the local authority finances, unlike the 'continuous cruisers'.

Agreed. Pedigree builder, but now almost 50 years old and looking a little jaded. Ageing engine with no particular appeal.

Stern roof layout would suggest back cabin with engine room forward.

Polanski's name only came up as it was part of the press report I saw. The boat certainly seemed to be rather overvalued, hence my query.

Don’t look like a very desirable mooring, if that’s the mooring it’s on, jammed in and views of old boats. I wouldn’t call it a sought after residential mooring with idyllic canal views.

I think people seem to use their name to rightly or wrongly promote stuff for sale, why anyone falls for it is beyond me. I remember a couple of newby boaters who called themselves foxes afloat?? Who did a few u tube vids then sold their distinctly average boat to someone at a daft price. I only mentioned to the missus last night that a DFS advert was pushing furniture endorsed by Amanda bloody Holden. For some bonkers reason people must fall for such endorsements or else businesses would not pay to use the name.

When I saw the title, I just thought of the film director Roman. As for the Foxes Afloat “the most famous boat on the canal” the couple that bought that must be as daft as the price they paid for it, which they’ll only realise when they try to sell it😱

From the duck weed at the stern it is also too shallow to get tight in, so the chine must be rubbing somewhere.

It looks like it would have been a nice boat in its day. If that’s a current photo it’s obviously been neglected in the last few years. Shame really, as it might have been a good boat for someone wanting to restore it at a fair price. But at £100K it’s likely to be someone wanting just cheap residential accommodation in London.

From the reports and council tax situation it would seem to be on an unregistered residential mooring along with several others who all shared the same address. The publicity from the identity of the owner seems to have put the mockers on this  site

I'd have thought a 1977 Les Allen boat on a permanent mooring in Kingsland Road Basin, Hackney would be worth £100k, at a stretch.

The £15k a professional re-paint would cost is peanuts for a London home.

On the downside, this whole thing looks likely to blow up in the media and shine the spotlight on thousands of not-very-well-off boaters living on leisure moorings and really fcuk it up for them.
