PaulJ Posted May 1 Report Posted May 1 Youve got to be quick to get through... Navigation Closure Lock 12 Details Type: Navigation Closure Waterway(s): Ashton Canal From: 1 May 2026, 12:26pm To: On-going Region: North West Reason: Repair Subject to review on: 6 May 2026 Location Closest waterway: Ashton Canal Starts at: Lock 12 Ends at: Lock 12 Description Original 1 May 2026, 1:22pm Navigation is currently closed at Lock 12 on the Ashton Canal due to a dislodged tailgate paddle. This issue is causing the lock to lose excessive amounts of water and prevents it from being operated. Our team has inspected the fault and is arranging the necessary materials. A further update will be provided by 4:00 pm on or before Wednesday, 6 May. Stroudwater1 Posted May 1 Report Posted May 1 Hopefully not dislodged by a boater. Although as they may have waited so long to get through its possible that they had forgotten how to operate locks.
Col_T Posted May 1 Report Posted May 1 Based on our experience on the Marple Flight on Tuesday, it’ll be a volunteer just dropping the paddle, not winding it down.
captain birdseye Posted May 1 Report Posted May 1 Most paddles on the Ashton are Hydraulic so impossible to drop, they have to be wound down. If I remember correctly only locks 8 and 14 have mechanical bottom paddles

It also has only one top paddle working which is actually why it wont fill. That was supposed to be fixed while the flight was closed but the Team werent sent out until the same day it reopened (and they needed to drain the pound above to sort it). But a good bunch anyhow who happily applied some grunt to the gate for the lucky few who managed to get through...

Locks 1,4, 15 and 16 iirc. possibly others. A big improvement.
