@Jen-in-Wellies I had to go find this, Mac tools cup hook bit.

I never knew such things existed. My new thing learnt today. I drill a pilot hole, then use a screwdriver shank through the hook to screw them in. A proper bit looks much more the thing and I can fit many more. 😀

And there was me thinking that I was the only one who knew that trick . . .

Works just as well with screw eyes. Thought that was they are called screwdrivers.

In my set of random and obscure driver bits, that's referred to as a Wing nut Driver. Who is using these to tighten a fitting literally designed for hand tightening?

A complete wingnut, obviously.

If the final torque is set correctly, then it would speed installation, without overtightening. They would have a use in industrial assembly. Problem is, without a system, the temptation to overtighten is overwhelming.

It does work well for driving cuphooks, does help to have a pilot hole though.

I've drilled quite a few pilot holes in my time, but never found the pilot. I guess he was busy flying something else?

I was going to post these beauties to "Tonic required. Send in your photos of what is nice on the waterways now." but technically there is no waterway here...

Dear Abby,

I've just counted 49 cup hooks in use in my boat. I am still finding more. Used for all sorts of things, including holding kitchen implements, curtain tie backs, porthole bung rods, even the anchor. None are used to hold cups, or mugs. I have a pack of unused hooks in the tool box, ready to add. Is this normal?

The days have passed, and still no photographic evidence.   I am beginning to wonder if this is an AI bot impersonating Jen-in-Wellies, looking for spiritual support?

This tool can also be used to remove cup hooks and throw them away.

Hope that helps....

There is another in the bathroom I didn't notice before. Holds a coil of waste hose from the gulper to discourage backflow. Fifty now.

And another in the cupboard above the cauliflower I'd forgotten. Fifty one.
