Can anyone throw any light on this boat? Interesting but unable to find anything about it online. Said to be a "heywood" build,  does it look like that? It seems very simple around the cants etc. Currently called Titus , index looks like 527243, I've been unable to find any history. Looks like a lister FR2  in it. I wonder if anyone has previous knowledge of it as the advert gives little detail

Thanks

Interesting.

Thank you

What engine do you think it might be?

Doesn't it look clean there? Not so much now. I need to do some polishing and painting.

Don't remember Mike Heywood doing anything with fake rivets until he joined with Evans and Son so I would suspect it's one of theirs.

That would be about 1994 and I'm not sure he built anything after that under his own name.

It was all in partnership with Evans.

Ooh I do like a tuggy porty boat! This one is actually very close to me, it'd be interesting if anyone knows anything about it? Anyone owned it in the past or know of it?

It's possibly been reregistered at some point, maybe a name change too?  As for builder...hmm, not sure... nothing obvious at that length and name from mike Heywood that I can find. I had imagined his would be a little more detailed perhaps, with a bit more stern lift for a tug style?

Was Mike Heywood actually building under his own name as late as 1998?

It seems rather unlikely to me.

Probably not but as he had a better name then Evans & Sons a lot of boats are recorded as Heywood's

As far as I know the Evans tie up was about 1994 I remember talking to him on the Evans boat at Waltham Abbey that year.

The single run of "rivets" at the front with none elsewhere was an Evans trait, occasionally they had a vertical line of them at the stern.

This is when I miss The Boat Listing being kept up to date. Is there no other equivalent? It was always a handy quick guide.

Could possibly be/have been called Norton in the dim and distant past?

If its the same boat, it does look like it, it was for sale with Virginia Currer Marine about 16 or 17 years ago. Eventually sold and if I remember rightly, was involved in a fire which caused a fair bit of internal damage. If it's the same boat it ended up being sold again and was at Streethay for a time undergoing a refit.

If it is it confirms it's an Evans boat and has been reregistered.

I don't suppose you can put your hand on anything with a photo from that kind of time?

Unfortunately not.

I remember possibly an old member of this Forum, who had another smaller tug style boat who purchased the boat I mentioned above. It was they who had it moored at Streethay, and were carrying out the upgrade and refit works. I seem to remember they had a blog somewhere with pictures too. Can't for the life of me remember who it was 🤔

Found it! But completely got the wrong name!

Haven't looked at it in any detail but certainly a very similar boat.

Not the same boat, there are "rivets" all the way down the side of the tug deck on Harry and  not on the mystery boat. Also no rings on the cabin front.

I suppose someone could have ground them off 😱

Our Evans and Son boat was a 1995 build, so that agrees.

Harry caught fire while for sale or just as sold, the burnt out shell was later bought by Kevin  and Vicky Blick and since sold on

Definitely Heywood lineage but that would include GT Boats and Gary Gorton ... and subsequently the Jonathan Wilson family ... ultimately Nick Thorpe. I have a GT tug dating from 1999 and all the detailing is very similar. The 'G' stood for Graham, who was an early Mike Heywood apprentice, and didn't (quite rightly) feel any great need to depart from his mentor's style and detailing.

I've persuaded myself not to fall in love and take on a third boat, even though it is a tug! She needs work, clearly, but if a survey shows the hull to be sound, it could be a really lovely little project boat for someone, and is priced to sell. History may be forthcoming perhaps. I can utterly picture her done up nicely as she deserves, so I hope she finds a buyer with some knowledge and the eye to a sympathetic restart on her.
