For those waiting, a chap from the contractors has just been out looking at the tree. He said his only concern is that they don't have a boat for dealing with it, but he took photos and his parting words were 'right, I'll go and get the cavalry' so fingers crossed.

Edit at 10.05 - And we now have 4 men in orange on the offside starting to tackle the tree.

And 10.20 - they've gone again ☹️

Couldn't they hollow out the tree trunk to make a log boat?

The men in hi vis are back on the offside. Looks like they're clearing stuff from the bank at the moment.

One of them is now in the canal in chest waders.

I've just read the CRT update that says they're still waiting for contractors to attend. After being given the thumbs up, we passed the 4 contractors about 1.20pm after 2 boats had come through the other way. Very odd.

We sent them an email and some pictures to tell them they're wrong. I suspect they just haven't chased the contractor for an update so assume nothings happened yet.

We had to go back to the junction to wind anyway so told anyone that we knew was waiting that it was clear.

Hopefully C&RT will swiftly clear the stoppage online.

When we helped a subby team clear a tree last year, the boss took photos of the cleared site and phoned C&RT herself before giving us the all clear.  To be fair her team was very efficient. Turned up with an aluminium dinghy, winches and everything needed to complete the job.
