An excellent find.

 

It is interesting that sheet metal piling and concrete sections had been installed prior to the collapse but the BW assessment was the collapse was caused by clay bed erosion! I guess they were motivated not to blame their recent improvements.

 

The finances of the 1982 repair offer an interesting reference point. Adjusting for inflation the 1982 repair, that was 10 times longer than the Whitchurch breech, cost £2.4 million. In woke 21st century Britain the CRT will probably spend £2 million rescuing the stranded fish whereas in 1982 they would taken the fish home for supper.
