The bucket is necessary because the bank is to unstable to take a post. It is the inevitable sticking plaster to cover the main problem. I still wouldn't want to take a chance on relying on it for support, but when it fails, if you are around, you could get an effective mudweight to replace unstable mooring rings or bollards.😁

How else, without the bucket, is the concrete going to stay in shape while it sets? What would you suggest, a cardboard box? 📦😁

Can quite read it but looks like a b&q 1 quid bucket. Enterprising I'd say...

Might make some sense if it was to stabilise an existing post that had broken off at ground level, but it looks like a new post.

My guess is they didn't have the time/tools/manpower to dig out the old foundation and do the job properly.

But at least when they do the proper job, they will have a handle to carry the temporary fix away!

It's on the long bucket list at crt maintenance sheet probably
