Hi - I'm currently moored up in Whaley Bridge.  Does anyone know of a good electrician in the area who's used to canal boats - I need some help and advice

Thanks

Michael

Electricians will give help. Don't know of any that just give advice, why should they?

FTFY... 😉

P.S. Except for @Tony Brooks who *is* offering free advice right here on CWDF, see above post... 🙂

Strangely enough I fully intended to pay for the electricians time so thanks for the pointless pedantics

I'll try again - anyone know a decent electrician who works on canal boats around the Peak Forest Canal.

Some of my electrics have been ruined by the ingress of water so I need some repair work undertaken

Thanks

Not just me, several members will help if we know what the problem is. If there is no problem, and it is something like i want an XYZ fitted then only an electrician on the spot can help, because they will see what work is required.

Thanks Tony you are a star - water ingress has knackered the shunt connections on my Victron battery monitor.  I need an electrician on the spot to replace it, make sure it's waterproof and hopefully help me work out where the water is coming from.

I appreciate your offer of help though

Cheers

Let's hope a local can give you a lead or two, but I don't see it as a difficult job, but doubt an electrician will bother too much about finding the leak. Maybe discuss mounting it in a box with a drain in the bottom.

I'm not sure that'd be the correct tradesperson to find leaks.

Do you mean water has knackered the shunt (or SmartShunt?), or the BMV? (what is "it"?) Photo?

Thanks everyone for your input I appreciate it - but if I can have a recommendation for an electrician who is used to boats within distance of Whaley Bridge I'd be very grateful 🥲

There was a post on FB recently that she is at one of the marinas up there, I think thee are only four marinas in the area

There might be someone at the Furness Vale marina but it's a bit small, New Mills marina definitely does electrical work but they might want you to go there (it's only an hour's cruise) not come out to you.

No one ever asks for a bad electrician. Blatant competence discrimination. Or perhaps it is discrimination against bad as in evil electricians. If they have a waxed moustache that they twirl, you'll know.

Have a word with Diesel Wizard (Mark) who is based on a boat in front of the Transhipment Warehouse. He may be able to help or know of an electrician.
