Does anyone on here have any experience with the CRAFTSMAN CM2 16hp engine. I need to source and change the main fuel filter and can't find much info online .
I know it's a Mitsubishi based engine similar to a 2 cylinder Thornycroft but that's about all I know

I don't want to start removing the old fuel filter until I have a replacement.

There should be a serial number on the filter, maybe take a photo if you can access it.

Go to youtube, there is a channel which has details of your engine, sells spares etc.

It looks like a standard "296" filter to me.

Do you have the CM2 engine maintenance manual ?

I have one in Pdf if you want a copy.

The photos do not show a 296 because they show a spin on and the 296 is bolt secured between top and =bottom castings.

It does look like a pretty standard filter to me, so I would take it off and visit a local car parts place (not Halfords or Europarts), the smaller local ones are usually more helpful, and will probably match it up for you. Otherwise, buy one from Craftsman, or talk to an online filter supplier like Filtermania.

Or try here https://yacht-supply24.com/catalog/brand-section/craftsman-marine/craftsman-oil-filter-cm2-16-cm3-27-cm4-42/

Thankyou all

fitted a new fuel filter today as well as a little clear plastic inline one .

😊

Are you sure the plastic one complies with the BSS - I bet it is not marked with the required BS/ISO or any fire rating.

Where in the system is this small plastic filter located? If it is in the pipe running from the tank to the lift pump a small filter is asking for blockage problems when you get water in the tank, or you get a bit of diesel bug/dirty fuel.

Is the inline plastic filter going to be acceptable to BSS?

My first thought was to ask whether this engine is fitted to a boat on waters where the BSS applies. But having seen the OP's profile pic, then yes, it does need to comply with the BSS.
