It has been very wet. That may just have been where it ended up when the flood waters went down.

That was my thoughts hence the mention of the Gt Ouse

Having looked it's a long way upstream from the navigable bit of the Gt Ouse. So even though that area floods I don't think it's that.

Plus there's a great big hole in the other side.

Bacchus - Greek god of wine. Says it all. 😊

You're thinking of Dionysus, surely...? Bacchus is a grape variety; cross between Riesling and Muller Thurgau. Makes a lovely flinty, zesty wine, similar to a New Zealand Sauvignon blanc...

(oh, hang on, not helping myself here...)

Bacchus = Roman

Dionysius = Greek

The Bacchae = Euripedes Tragedy (I once saw a production in 1970s which was really 'impressive')

I remember a game of "post-its" many years ago where one unfortunate participant had managed to deduce that he was a Roman god but after many attempts was still unable to spot that he was Bacchus, in spite of having being told that he wasn't called Frontus or Sideus. Drink may have been taken... 😉

There were some Greeks named Dionysius, but the god was Dionysus,

Remind me - who was the Roman God of the pedant? 😂

There wasn't one, but Minerva represented intelligence and scholarship, and Veritas symbolised factual accuracy, so you could pick one of those I suppose. 😜

Unforgiveable - especially as Bacchus got it right!
