The French have named this storm after an Italian Saint, Maria Goretti, who is a symbol for purity.

Snow is pure at first, but what are the effects on boaters?

Trains have been cancelled and roads blocked, Theatres have closed for the time being and some shops have been isolated and so yet another challenge presents itself

None at all where I am atm, near the summit of the T&M. Snow turned to rain overnight and none on the ground come morning. Little wind. A big non event here. Saw the barometer dropping like a stone yesterday and expected more.

A little bit of extra water in the River (Thames in Berks/Bucks borders).

Nothing much really but there is some yellow snow further it to the west.

In Birmingham, there is snow and a gritter last night got stuck on a hill near me. I wonder what the canals are like here.

Sommett and nowt here in Ceredigion. As usual these days we had terrible weather warnings all over the place, if a snowflake falls on London the World shuts down. Its rained here and what the locals called snow which was nowt. Daughter came up from Falmouth yesterday and has just left my house and now driving back. Doubt she will have a problem but she is a realist.

I'm still iced in (been like it for about a week now) on the upper Peak Forest Canal so no travelling for me. Goretti did not make much difference apart from put some sleet on top of the ice which is about an inch thick.

And yet 20 miles north of you it was the opposite story and further north people were stuck in vehicles all night on the A44 to Aberystwyth. Even where I am we still have a couple of inches of slushy snow still remaining.
And my daughter in Cornwall was in touch this morning. They have no electric, phone or mobile service, their mains water supply has failed, and have been told the electric is likely to be off until Sunday. Luckily they have a wood burner and a camping stove.

Here in Hebden Bridge we had about 1/2" of snow a week or so back, and a little dusting since. Temperatures are around 0 degrees - warm enough during the day to melt most of the snow, but cold enough at night to refreeze on the ground. Roads and footpaths in the town are clear, in the country paths can be a bit icy (as my backside found out earlier today), but it's no big deal, and doesn't warrant all the media headlines.

Bit of a damp squid in Northamptonshire, even Cold Ashby that has held downhill skiing on the golf course in the past didn't much, and it's called Cold Ashby for good reason.

No sign of anything in Liverpool today. In contrast to Sweden a week ago, howling wind for 2 days, trees down on power lines everywhere , no electricity for 3 days and then a metre of snow in 24 hours…followed by minus 24c the morning after I left. Quite glad to get out of there honestly….in one piece.

Beautiful clear blue skies here today. Was a bit nippy earlier but lovely now. Nipping up to the beach soon. We mostly missed it here in this valley.

The GU has been frozen for over 2 weeks now here.

We did manage 2" of snow yesterday 4 hours before the Metoffice said our rain would turn to snow.

was waiting for the “We’ve got 2 feet of snow here” joke, obviously the cold has slowed the senses of humour, or were you after a frostbite?🥶🎣😂
