Absolutely

, buy a bottle of red about £10 or a mistake at £11.75, not easy drinking.

Nutmeg,   cinnamon  and a clove. Warm the lot, with a dash of water to release the aroma. Remove clove, Serve in a wineglass.

Additives include lemon rind and orange peel, this is for a party punchbowl . More red wine and more party people.

You left out the brandy wot goes in after he plonk has been mulled.

Avoid ready bottled mulled anything,  unless you have run out of Draino.

PS,

Dont forget to put your sprouts on  in good time for next Thursday

Sainsbury’s and Tesco are doing Tunis cake this year. Anyone know of any others?

Now that really IS weird.

Tunis cake is an Easter thing, according to my sister's ex, who claimed to be an authority on this!

Never quite worked out what it is though....

Tried the Cornish food box company one a few years ago. It was awful.

Nah it’s always been Christmas. Especially popular in the late 70’s when McVitties made them.

Thanks. This explains why, back then, we could never find one for sale at Easter!

Tescos were doing half price beef and lamb this weekend. Not sure if the offer has finished yet.

Half price with Clubcard. Normally runs until Christmas Eve I think. Just checked the app and both say Valid for delivery until 28/12/25.

I bought half price leg of lamb from Sainsbury. Do not try this.

It's huge but it's not lamb, its old sheep.

I've tried everything but is chewy, and dry with no flavour. I've complained to Sainsbury.

There is a few lb that has been on my stove for about five hours, but to be honest I don't think I want it.

Did they refund you?

I’ve had quite a few refunds from Tesco when I’ve complained, not sure about Sainsbury’s.

I opened a Twitter (as it was then) account during Covid as it was the easiest way to complain to them at the time. Complaining in public on Twitter may have helped although many of my subsequent complaints about home deliveries were via Twitter private messages and they still refunded me extremely quickly.

I’ve always found the Tesco half price beef joints work really well if wrapped in foil then several layers of towel or similar for one hour as soon as they come out of the oven. After an hour it’s still hot but has gone beautifully tender.

I've only just complained today. It is so large I can t get it in the oven roasting tin,  I've had to cut it up, but it really put me off, what should have been a steak just shrank and even left to rest was still tough as old boots.

When I have a complaint with ASDA, I call them on the phone and it is immediately credited back to my bank account.

No ifs or buts - if you are not happy you get your money back.

I left a complaint on their feedback, expect they will get back to me, if not I'll phone. I could tell by looking at it that it was oversize for a lamb.

You can't really judge by the size - lamb is lamb for culinary purposes until a year old.  But it becomes tougher after that.  Mutton used to be very popular, but you can't get it these days.  Stewed for several hours (not roasted) it became tender with more flavour than lamb. I eat very little meat these days, but this is making my mouth water!  (Spanish tortilla tonight).

I get mutton at £5 Kg. its not tough but tends to be quite fat, but then its not 5 years old, probably 2 at the most

No problem getting mutton around here, you just have to ask the butcher as he doesn't have it on display.

We get mutton from our butchers at the farm shop.

A bit cheaper than lamb but so much more flavour. You have to cook it right though or it is tough.

Same here.

We have loads of venison in the freezer at the moment.

Venison also needs care with cooking, partly because it's so lean, but also because deer exercise. Either treat it like a steak and cook briefly so it's still pink in the middle, or cook slowly for hours like in a rich stew -- anything in between tends to be tough and dry.

Love mutton, makes a vastly better curry than lamb.
